Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and some of us have love on our mind. It doesn’t matter if you are in a relationship or not, I’m sure you want to mark the day with something. Here are five things that I think will make the ultimate Valentine’s Day.

Relaxing
There is no way you can get into the mood for love if you are stressed. So it’s time to relax. I love relaxing in the bath and having a nap, I’m simple like that. Take some time for you and relax before you head to celebrate the holiday with your favourite relaxing activity. It doesn’t matter what it is, this is time for you. Like I said, I love a bath and a nap, so I would pop some candles around the bath and use a fancy bath bomb to help soak away my aches and pains before climbing into bed for an hour or two to recharge the batteries.
Food and Drink
I don’t know why but Valentine’s Day always makes me want something fancy. At Christmas, it’s all about the comfort food and filling your belly. Halloween is about party food. Valentine’s Day is about the finer things. That doesn’t mean that you should break the bank or start chugging champagne for the hell of it if you don’t drink. A lot of the supermarkets will have a meal deal, normally called Two Dine for £10, or some variation on that. This is a great way to have a touch of luxury for your meal without spending the guts of £100 on a night out. Nobody needs that sort of spending for a single night out.
Love and stuff
We can’t talk about Valentine’s Day and not throw some light on the subject of sex. But, and maybe it is just me, but does it not seem like the shops promote some slightly kinky stuff when it comes to sex on Valentine’s Day? There are fluffy handcuffs and whips hanging up next to the birthday cards. I’m not against the idea of a bit of domination dating if that is your thing, but I don’t think it is necessary at Valentine’s Day to throw caution to the wind and start spanking your partner for the hell of it. When it comes to sex at any time of the year, do what you feel comfortable with. But if you want to try something different with your partner, go for it. Nothing wrong with being a little old person in the future and starting a sentence with, “back when I was your age, My BDSM Hookups were…” and embarrassing your grandkids.
Gifts and Flowers
I’m not going to lie, I love getting bunches of flowers at any time of the year. My husband is generally quite good at springing a surprise bunch on me. But flowers aren’t for everyone. If you don’t like the idea of a cut bunch of flowers, then why not ask for a plant instead? Houseplants are great gifts and some have beautiful leaves that can bring a bit of colour to a room, never mind the health benefits of certain plants. My husband has gotten me a lot of plants over the years, including some roses for the garden that bloom every spring. Think outside the box when it comes to gifts and flowers, you won’t be disappointed.
Somebody to love
Ok, so you have looked down this list and thought to yourself that it only applies to couples. *Tisk* Do you guys not know me by now? Of course, these can be applied to friends and family. Screw it! Apply them to yourself! There is no rule that says that Valentine’s Day is about being in a couple. You can buy yourself a gift, relax by yourself and treat yourself to a nice meal. And if anyone ever says anything and tries to make you feel bad about being by yourself on Valentine’s Day, just remember 1929. In 1929, Bugs Moran and Al Capone saw their final big confrontation when Capone executed some of Morans best hitmen. The hit became known as the Valentine’s Day Massacre. No Valentine’s Day will ever top that one for sucking.
