Plot
Ted leads a simple life as a manager of a pet store and is left in a massive depression when his wife leaves him. Seeing no point to his life, he decides to kill himself, but first, he has some stuff to take care of. He heads back to his home town and stays with his older brother, his sister-in-law and their two sons. While he is there, he discovers that one of his nephews is gay and battling with the reality of his sexuality. Meanwhile, his sister-in-law is battling her own made-up demons. Ted has a couple of goals before he goes into the great beyond. One is to confront the people who made his life a nightmare, his former school bully and an old teacher.
Thoughts on the movie
This is one of those underrated movies that you probably haven’t heard of until you found it here or were scrolling through Netflix or Prime. This is a dark comedy that would definitely not be to most people’s taste, and it was mainly panned by critics. It’s a real shame because it is one of those hidden gems that had me laughing out loud with the subtle jokes. It touches on so many different subjects like mental health, bullying, and sex.

I have a real soft spot for Seann William Scott, he is one of those underrated actors that doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. This is also Courtney Cox’s first-ever director attempt and it was a great one with the tone and choice of cast. This is a great grown-up comedy that provides plenty of drama and laughs. A lot of people have left reviews saying that they expected to hate it but ended up loving it. This is one to watch because there aren’t many movies that provide laughs and real humanity.
