Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the 2008 comedy starring Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Russell Brand. Segel plays Peter, a music composer who works with his girlfriend, Sarah, on her TV show. But after they break-up, Peter heads to Hawaii and meets Rachel (played by Kunis), and runs into Sarah and her new boyfriend, Aldous (played by Brand).

The Plot
Peter loves Sarah Marshall, and she loved him back. But after being together for five years, Sarah decides to end the relationship, leaving Peter devastated and naked. Unfortunately for Peter, he can’t throw himself into his work because they work together on the same TV show. So, Peter decides to head off to Hawaii for a holiday but runs into Sarah and her new boyfriend at the hotel. The hotel concierge, Rachel, takes pity on Peter and lets him stay in one of the fancy suites as long as he cleans up after himself. For the rest of the holiday, Peter tries to avoid the happy couple while trying to forget Sarah Marshall. By the end of the holiday, Peter has realised that his relationship with Sarah wasn’t all that great and he has feelings for Rachel.
Thoughts on the Story
Anyone who has been dumped will empathise with this movie and how hard it can be moving on. And apparently, the naked break-up scene is based on a true story. This is a funny take on how crappy and filled with self-loathing a person can be filled with after a break-up and the extremes that people will go to to get over an ex. I’ve never dealt with a break-up with a holiday to Hawaii but I would imagine that it helps to make the self-hatred a bit easier to deal with.

Jason Segel and Mila Kunis are two of the funniest comedy actors that have appeared in recent years. This is a laugh-out-loud movie that is great when you are feeling a bit rubbish about yourself. And even, if you don’t feel rubbish, the scenery of Hawaii is a great way to get you in the holiday vibe.
