The Plot

Amy is a burnt-out mother of two children who has to do everything. She works, runs the kids about to different activities. After a really bad day, she snaps. Well, not snaps, she gives up and backs out of a PTA engagement. The fall out that occurs shakes the moms to the core. She heads out to a bar and hangs out with two other moms. During their drunken night out, they decide to be bad moms because it’s impossible to be a good one.

Thoughts on the Story

I feel for these moms, I really do. I have felt the full effect of “mom stress” and feeling like a failure. Being a mother is so hard and everyone has an opinion on what you are doing.  There was plenty of opportunities to make the story into an edgy film that could poke at fun at the idea of being a perfect parent. In some respects, it fell short, but on the other hand, if it had been an edgy movie people might not be interested.

This is a comedy movie that rings so much truth. There is so much pressure on mothers these days to be perfect. Are your kids eating healthy? Are they doing enough activities? Are they doing too many activities? There doesn’t seem to be a right answer for anything so we think we are doing a bad job. We are all bad moms. And that is just fine by me.
