Juice Plus: An Honest Review

If you go and have a look online for Juice Plus, the glory that is the internet will bring up so much stuff it’s difficult to decide if this stuff is any good. There are blogs, not unlike this one, who either praise or slander the life out of it. In my house there are three people who love Juice Plus and one who hates it. Let me explain….

Because we live in a world where money is needed to survive, Latte Lindsay runs a number of affiliate programmes and offers paid/sponsored content. If you choose to click the links and read the posts, the site may earn a commission or receives a payment. All of the opinions are my own. Opinions expressed here are author’s alone, not those of any partner brands/company(s), beauty & lifestyle brands, airlines or hotel chain, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by any of these entities unless specified.

About a year ago I was trying different things to help boost my immune system. I was a community care worker who worked the night run in the middle of the winter. It was cold, wet and it snowed a lot last year so I was a sick bunny a lot of the time. Let’s pile on top a house to run, two children, a degree to study, blah blah blah! Basically, I was a wreck. To prove my point- here is a picture of my dog lying on my head when I had a passed out on the sofa from pure exhaustion.

That horrible sofa is the reason why I put affiliate links in this post. If you click on those links and buy something, the site gets a small commission.

So, yeah, I was a mess and a friend of mine said I should try it, seeing as she was a rep for it. I’ll be perfectly honest, she could have selling hardcore drugs and I would not have cared. I needed something to stop me from feeling like death. Once I got my order of Juice Plus tablets and Juice Plus shakes, I got stuck in and began taking it every day. After a week, I really noticed the difference. I wasn’t as tired, I was sleeping better, basically I was the complete opposite of what I was. And this is what I looked like after a month…..

I turned into Batman

Note, I don’t look like death. Yes, I’m wearing make-up and I’ve had my hair done but seeing as a few weeks earlier I was letting my dog sleep on my head I think it’s safe to assume that this is a noticeable improvement.

So what is Juice Plus? What is in Juice Plus that makes it so good for you? It’s classed as a whole food based capsule which contains a variety of fruits and vegetables which are clearly listed on the Juice Plus ingredient list. In the fruits capsules there are apples, oranges, pineapple, cranberries, peaches, papayas, prunes, dates, and acerola cherries. The vegetables contain carrots, parsley, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, kale, spinach, and tomatoes. And the berry capsules contain blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, bilberries, raspberries, concord grapes, redcurrants, blackcurrants, and elderberries. That’s a lot of good stuff in those capsules. The process of blending and putting all of this into the capsules keeps the goodness in. There’s no sugar, no salt, no milk. At this moment in time, there have been 29 independent studies which have shown the benefits of Juice Plus and there is another 20 going on making it the most researched nutritional product in the world. And these aren’t small research colleges, Yale done a study. Yeah, that Yale.*

The company claim that it helps your oral health, makes your skin look better, and that you will have fewer sick days. Actually, the list of benefits that they list is too long to put on here, so trust me, there’s a lot. There is a long list of Juice Plus benefits which they list and the reps are happy to tell you. So far this has all been true for me. Since starting it I haven’t been sick at all. My kids are on it too and they haven’t been sick either. In fact, since I got the toddler to take the gummies, his eating habits have improved. He’s gone off sweets and chocolate preferring an apple or banana instead. Really, who can say their three-year-old has switched like that?

So why am I telling you all this? Mainly because there is that much stuff out there slagging it off it can be worrying if you are considering taking it. For those who claim it is nothing more than an expensive placebo, fair enough. This might be true, I’m not a medical doctor, how would I know without having blood tests and the like done. But what I do know is this, if it is a placebo it’s the best damn one I’ve ever had! And considering the benefits that I have seen for myself and my kids, I will continue to take it. Also, I would love to see one of these people who think it’s a lot of bull to contact these universities and tell them that their research is a lot of pants. I dare you! Phone Yale University and tell them they are full of rubbish! I would love to be a fly on the wall for that!

Oh, before I forget, my hubby-to-be doesn’t like it. Why? Simple. When you start taking it, your body goes through a bit of a detox, so you poop a lot. It is kind of like when you start eating loads of fruit and veg for the first time. My sweetie started taking them, went through a detox and felt great. Then he stopped taking them. He started to feel like rubbish so started taking them again, went through detox again….and then stopped taking them again. You can see where this is going. Because he doesn’t take them every day, he keeps putting his body through a mini detox every time he starts again. Lovely!

*Update: Since writing this post, I’ve learned A LOT about more about Juice Plus and the world of MLM. As far as I can tell, the research that was done by Yale (and all of the other scientific studies they have listed on their site) have had information cherry-picked to suit the Juice Plus agenda. At no point does Yale mention Juice Plus by name, and I can find no studies that link the scientifically-backed benefits of Juice Plus to any reputational study. Although I experienced some benefits from taking it, I found it to be expensive compared to having a healthy diet and taking a multi-vitamin. And as a few people pointed out, it may have been responsible for the horrid IBS I have developed and suffered from since. Guys, it’s a free world, take it if you want to, but for me, I’ll be keeping clear of it and eating actual fruit and vegetables.
