Have you ever looked at a TV or movie character and thought it must be awesome to be them? Me too, but is it everything it is cracked up to be? For one week, I channelled my inner Olivia Pope and became a gladiator in a suit.
This morning I had my landlord on the phone asking where my rent was, which was strange seeing as I had paid my rent the day before. I went to the bank, handed over some cold, hard cash, and it was paid. But she didn’t get it. This is the problem with being poor.
Today ended up as another screaming match for me and my family. Once again I cracked up at them all for being messy. I’m at home all the time so clearing up everyone else’s mess shouldn’t be an issue, should it?
For many of us from the working class, the modern day workplace is filled with horror. From scrubbing toilets to call centres, I’ve done it all. But as I grew older I realised that I hadn’t fulfilled any of my dreams.
When it comes to feminism in the modern world, to be called a feminist is practically an insult. How dare women expected to be treated the same as men! How dare we want equal pay, the same rights, and blah blah blah! Is that feminism or equal rights across the board? And why is feminism a dirty word?
I never really think about how good I have it. Most of us never do. But don’t worry, that doesn’t make us bad people. Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that things aren’t that bad and that is stuff in our lives we can be grateful for. We need to be reminded that there are things that make us say, “merci”.
This was one of my first published pieces in a real life newspaper about employers watching us on social media.
You can imagine my delight when the editor of this very paper emailed me. I was going to write for a paper. I had a place to showcase my writing talents. The initial buzz of excitement disappeared when I realised, to my horror, I had added the editor as a friend on Facebook.
For the last while I have been back and forth with lots of different stuff. Studying, family life, but the general theme is wanting to move forward. But do you know what the hardest thing is about trying to move forward? It’s knowing where to start. Sometimes the journey for self-improvement starts with the decision to move forward.
One thing that a lot of people forget when they are trying to improve their lives is their house. Your house, your home, your environment, whatever you like to call it, has a big impact of you. So this week we are going to look at how to change your life and house for the better.
