Wake and Shake Alarm Clock || Real life testing

Under normal circumstances, most of us would get up in the morning and head off to work or school. But, seeing as we are currently experiencing an “extended holiday” thanks to a virus, most people are enjoying their beds. Am I one of these people? Nope. I have a keyworker husband who needs to get up. But that isn’t what this is about, this is about me still wanting to get up.

What am I testing?

Geemarc has created a range of alarm clocks to help those of us who struggle to get out of bed in the morning. I definitely fall into that category. So does my teenage daughter who is always late for her 9 am classes in college. The alarm clock that they have sent me is the Wake ‘n’ Shake Dynamite, a little red circle that packs a punch when it goes off. Not only does it have an extra loud alarm (up to 95dB at 1 meter), it flashes and has a shaker function too. Another handy function is the USB port for charging your phone.

What is it like?

First off, I want to say I was sent this to test and give my feedback. However, the morning the package arrived had been a nightmare and my eldest was late to college (again) after claiming that she didn’t hear her alarm (even though the rest of the house heard it and woke the babies up).  Not hearing your alarm is not a good excuse in my book. My husband is deaf in one ear and he gets up. He has a step-counter watch with a vibrate function, so I knew this bad boy alarm clock would work on her.

There are a variety of ways to set the clock up, you don’t need to set it to the deafening level. A combination of low sound, flashing lights and the vibration pad was enough to get my daughter out of bed in the morning. Even she knew her timekeeping was becoming an issue so she agreed to try out the different set-ups to help her get up.

This is one of those items that has proved very useful and helped us to maintain a regular schedule during this difficult time. I am not a fan of loud noises waking me up, as a child I lived near a dog breeder who let her dogs bark from dawns crack to sundown, so loud noises tend to bring me out in a rage. The vibration pad is a delight to use instead of noise, and the flashing light helps to bring you around to the present after a good night’s sleep.

Overall, this clock is a winner for me. The variety of set-ups can be tailored to your needs so that you can wake up feeling refreshed instead of jumping out of your skin at a loud noise. But if a loud noise is your jam, go on ahead! It’s loud enough to wake even the deepest sleeper. It is also recommended for people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf, or hard of hearing.
