The Locket
When it came to choosing a locket, the answer was simple. I had to have a silver locket. I liked the idea of a plain locket that could match my other items. The plain locket can be engraved with a few letters or a date, but I’ll explain why I decided against the engraving in a moment. When it came to picking the pictures that would go inside the locket, I couldn’t decide. What I really wanted was a picture of all of my kids together for one half, and a picture of my husband and I for the other half. I had the one of my hubby, but I don’t have a picture of all of my kids together. The only photo that I had with everyone in it was a bit busy and probably wouldn’t have printed properly. So, when it came to checking out, I skipped the photo section and engraving. Honestly, I couldn’t commit to an engraving without the photos that I wanted.
When the locket arrived, it came in some beautiful boxes and packaging. Everything was carefully packed and created an experience of opening the box. Silver has been associated with luxury for centuries – hence the phrase ‘raised with a silver spoon’. Lovelox lockets are made with 925 sterling silver and then plated with 925 sterling silver on top of this to achieve an exquisite finish. If you decide to choose another metal for your locket, they are made with the same care as the silver. There is a small, disguised hinge to the left side, lockets open like a book to reveal a space to hold two items. In the past people have carried locks of hair or even ashes, but now most commonly this space is filled with a portrait photograph of their loved ones.
The photographs that you choose are resized appropriately and delicately cut into the corresponding shape of the locket. They are then carefully slid into the hollow. Then the photo is held in place by the outside rim of the locket casing. And finally, to protect the surface of the photo a clear plastic film is positioned on top. Although I didn’t choose photos, I can get the pictures printed at my local photo shop when I am ready. However, we can all agree it would be a lot easier to have the pictures printed by Lovelox and fitted in the locket before it is sent out.
Why are lockets coming back in fashion?
Back in the 1990s, lockets were all the rage. There was nothing more romantic to a teenage girl than heading to a photo booth, getting a few pictures taken with your true love, and then putting those special pictures in a locket to hang around your neck. A teenage boy would carry the picture in his wallet. However, the appearance of the camera phone meant that using a photo booth was not needed. No photo booth pictures meant no tiny pictures for lockets, and nobody really liked wearing a locket without pictures inside.

I won’t lie, even though I have a locket, I wouldn’t be angry if I got a locket every year for my birthday or Christmas with special photos from the year inside.
