The Beauty Edit

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. These are two quotes that tend to get thrown about when I talk about what I do. Another one is that women wear makeup for the benefit of men. To counter that argument I’d like to use a quote from another beauty blogger, “I don’t own 50 Mac lipsticks to impress a man that can’t tell the difference between Shy Girl and Teddy”. Why am I ranting at the beginning of a beauty post? Because if you choose to use any of the beauty products that I talk about, it should be because they make you feel beautiful.

I have brought most of these products with my own cold hard cash, but from time-to-time I do get freebies. I will always tell you when I get free stuff. There is also links to websites that I trust where you can buy these products. If you choose to click the links and buy stuff, I get a bit of commission to keep me cheap shoes and expensive coffee.

John Frieda Precision Foam Colour

John Frieda Precision Foam Colour 4BG Dark Chocolate Brown Permanent Colour

I am one of those people who is terrible at doing hair dye. I used to be good. Never a drop was spilled. But somewhere over time I became a messy pup and can’t do a home colour without ruining clothes or staining the walls. This foam is quick and easy to use that promises no patchy bits in your hair. If you follow the instructions then it is impossible to mess this up. The thick foam means no running or accidentally flicking it up the tiles. In my opinion, it doesn’t have that gross hair dye smell that makes your eyes water. I was really impressed with this because I had to use it the day before my wedding. On the day I had a natural looking colour and no staining on my forehead or neck like I normally do.

Rigel Teeth Whitening Strips

Rigel Strips
In the name of honesty, I was sent these for free to try out. I am really fussy about what I use on my teeth, nearly ten years of dental work makes you a bit iffy that way. These use oxygen to lift the stains from your teeth and remove plaque. When I opened them, they reminded my of the dissolvable mints you could get a few years ago. All you had to do was pop a strip on your teeth and away you go! They are so easy to use and you don’t need to spend a hour using it. I used them for a few days and I did notice my teeth had gotten whiter. That’s impressive by itself seeing as I drink coffee. I really liked these because they worked and were easy to use.

Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude Foundation

Maybelline Dream Flawless Foundation Number 021, Nude

I have heard good things about this foundation from other people so I decided to give it a go myself. It comes in a little bottle with a dropper type stick for application. This was the foundation I used on my wedding day and I don’t think I looked too bad in the photos. It is very easy to blend and I didn’t notice any lines or streaks after I had blended it on my face. The colour match was excellent and I didn’t feel the need to apply or blend it onto my neck. The last thing I wanted was foundation stains on my white dress before I had said “I Do”. It is very runny but I think that is what makes it so easy to apply and work with.

Make Up Academy Pro-Base Fixing Mist

Another gem from my wedding day! I knew I would have to make sure that my makeup lasted all day and there would be no chance of fixing my face. Good thing too because my makeup bag for touch ups was left in the house! Eek! I managed to party until the wee hours of the morning, head banged to Slipknot (my DJ was awesome!) and my makeup didn’t move. I was expecting to have my eyeliner around my chin my the end of the night but I looked the same as I had hours earlier. I love this fixing mist! It’s cheap and cheerful, and I’ve used it a few times since and it still hasn’t let me down.

Cuccio Naturale Butter

If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t you can follow me here ) then you will know I was at a charity event recently for suicide awareness and the opening of a new centre. I entered a raffle and won some body butter! I am a little bit too excited about winning it to be honest. With it being a charity raffle I was expecting this to be a cheap and sticky butter that has no benefit. Oh, how wrong was I! This is a creamy butter that glides on like, er, butter. It smells awful in the jar but when you put it on your skin, the fragrance is relaxed and you can really smell it on you. Unlike a lot of moisturisers this one has a scent that will last for hours.
