Sometimes my beauty picks are all about your skin and being youthful. Making it look better, protecting it, and making it shimmer. I’m not getting any younger so anything that can roll back the years and make me think that I’m a young chick again is good in my books. Hopefully I won’t forget my real age again and get in trouble with the tax office, again.
As usual these products have been independently tested in the laboratory that is my bathroom. No animals were used in my testing process unless you count the time that the dog licked my bottom in the shower. I have left some links to products from sites that I trust. If you choose to buy from these sites, you will be helping to fund my biscuit fund and I get a bonus which I have to spend on either a new bathroom lock or training for the dogs.
Warning- This is a super long post that might inspire you for Christmas shopping or to treat yourself. I won’t judge either way.
Beauty Picks- POP Beauty Eyeshadow Trio
I love a nice shimmer on my eyelids. I haven’t been one for colour on the lids since the 90’s (yes, I’m that old). I fell in love with an eyeshadow that my mother had when I was younger which was a creamy shimmer from Elizabeth Arden called Heatherlea, I think. Since then I have been on the look out for something similar. These cute little eyeshadows are powders but go on like a cream. They have a gentle shimmer that really pops. The darker shade gives a nice colour without being over dramatic but if you do fancy an extra POP of colour (see what I did there) then use a primer underneath for a darker pigment. The price of an Elizabeth Arden eyeshadow can be anything from £15 upwards for a single colour. These are a steal starting from £15 for a palette of colour which give an excellent sweep for your lids.
Beauty Picks- Benefit Cosmetics Dream Screen
Beauty Picks- St Tropez In-Shower Tan
This was a brand new self-tan from St Tropez and I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to try it out. But I can’t help but be a bit disappointment with this. I used this a few days in a row in the shower before I saw some noticeable change in my skin tone. My skin tone is naturally darker than the average Northern Irish girl so maybe this was not a good time for me to check this out but normally when I try fake tan, I will notice it on my belly. Fake tan is great for covering stretch marks but it did take a couple of goes to get the shade build up. Although it did give me some cover, I was expecting something so much better from the St Tropez brand.
Beauty Picks- Instanatural Stretch Mark and Scar Cream
Let me just say that I am a tough cookie when it comes to stretch mark cream. I have horrible stretch marks after having two big babies. My belly looks like roadkill. I’m not joking. So when I was sent this cream, I didn’t have much faith in it. I shall now take those words and eat them. I wish I had taken pictures of my belly before I started using this stuff. My belly started to look better after the first use. After 3 days I actually started to believe that I could have my pre-baby body back. And when I do I plan on investing in several bikinis. Alright, there’s one before and 3 days later picture. I’m sorry, it’s gross.
Beauty Picks- Instanatural Cellulite Cream
InstaNatural Cellulite Cream – With Caffeine and Retinol – Firming Lotion and Dimple Remover for Legs, Arms, Stomach, Buttocks and More – No Wrap Needed – With Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E – 4 OZ (Packaging May Vary)
I hate cellulite cream. I hate the texture, I hate the smell, and I hate how most of the time it needs a vigorous exercise regime to make it work. This stuff smells nice, has a texture that melts into your skin, and it works. This cream is the complete opposite of every other cream I have ever used. It’s really good. Within a week of using my thighs looked awesome. Silky smooth. I can wear a mini skirt. Not that I would but I can if I want to. Score!
Beauty Picks- Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner
I have always been a big fan of Herbal Essences and now with the Great British weather turning to winter, it’s important to keep your hair moisturised. Central heating and the car heater are the two things that dry my hair out. I love the smell of the Hello Hydration with its coconut scent. You can turn your shower into a tropical haven, no matter what the weather is doing outside. From the first use it will leave your hair feeling soft and replenished. This has been a favourite in my house for years, even my husband likes to get totally tropical in the shower!
Beauty Picks- Pantene Pro-V Instant Repair and Overnight Protect Spray
If a moisturising shampoo and conditioner isn’t enough for your thirsty hair, then try some of this spray. It’s really easy to use. Simply spray on your hair at night, sleep on it, and wash your hair as normal the next morning. If you use a lot of heat styling tools then something like this is vital for keeping your hair in great condition. This bottle lasted ages and was perfect when the heat got too much for my hair. The light formula also meant that there wasn’t a build-up left on my hair if I used it a few days in a row.
Beauty Picks- Percy and Reed London Volumising No Oil Oil
Sometimes I get my mitts on stuff and it falls short of my expectations, but not this. It does exactly what it says on the label. Not only is it great for styling your hair, it protects, moisturises, and repairs. It even adds volume and isn’t greasy. It has a gentle floral fragrance of violets is soothing too. Soothing for the hair and mind, what more could we ask for?
Beauty Picks- Nivea Daily Essentials Extra Gentle Eye Make-up Remover
When you wear a lot of eye makeup, it’s important that you can get it all off at the end of the day. Nobody wants to stand for ages trying to remove all that eyeliner! Nivea’s eye makeup remover is so gentle on the eyes it might as well be water. It’s really effective at getting all that mascara from your lashes. It has a super gentle formula that removes eye liner and mascara without ripping the eyes out of your head. Even if you are wearing a lot of eye makeup, simply holding a cotton pad that is covered in remover will get it shifted.
Beauty Picks- Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm
Glow like an angel with this balm. When you pop this on your face, you get an instant glow that might make you think twice about wearing make-up at all. But if you do, it makes a great primer. It really tightens those pores on your face and leaves your skin dewy and young looking. Perfect for those days when you don’t want to wear makeup but still want to light up the room. Or, in my case, those days when you don’t want to look like death.
Beauty Picks- Lip Smackers
You can feed your inner child with these tasty lip balms. They come in a range of flavours including Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite. They leave no colour behind so they are great if you are wanting a natural look on your lips. And they smell divine! My favourite has to be the Cherry Coca-Cola, it’s so sweet. The fragrance lasts a good while and they help keep your lips kissable. Be warned, with these balms on your lips, the boys might want to kiss you to see if it tastes as good as it smells.
Beauty Picks- Norwegian Formula Concentrated Hand Cream
If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you know that I’ve been busy in the garden and ripping my house apart. For the last year I’ve been digging bricks and stones out from the garden, painting the house, and my hands have taken the toll. This cream has been great for relieving the dry, sore skin. If you plan on doing any hardcore gardening this year, then make sure that you get some of this handy. But, if your hands suffer in the cold weather, this will be ideal to carry about with you too.
Beauty Picks- Balance Me Colour Lip Salve
I love this stuff! It’s petroleum free and smells just a little bit minty. It provides a sheen to your lips and leaves them oh so soft and lovely. All of the Balance Me range aims to be as natural a possible, and this lip salve is 100% natural. It’s perfect for those balmy summer nights in the beer garden or for kissing under the mistletoe!
Beauty Picks- Sure Invisible Compressed Anti-Perspirant
I’m normally a fan of the bigger tins of antiperspirant but decided to give this a try. I’m actually surprised that it lasted as long as it did. It has lasted just as long as the bigger tins, but doesn’t take up as much room in your bathroom. It also has anti mark technology (can antiperspirant have technology in it?) so there is no white marks, yellow marks, or sweat stains. Perfect for those of you who have to wear a uniform, no more marks under the arms.
Beauty Picks- Joey Essex A-Lister Locks Super Shine Spray
When the weather starts to change, I get frizzy hair that looks like I’ve stuck my finger in a plug socket. And for some reason, static becomes a real problem. On a whim I tried this shine spray and it has been brilliant. Not only does it leave your hair shiny, but it feels smoother too. I’m not normally a fan of celebrity products like this as they tend to fall short sometimes, but I am loving this spray. Even if I don’t know who Joey Essex is.
Beauty Picks- Silver Light
I will confess, I didn’t buy this. My granny gave me it. Normally when your granny buys you stuff it can be disappointing so I was surprised that I liked this. It has a weird scent that I couldn’t put my finger on but it’s different from a lot of the scents that are about. There is a mixture of bergamot, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, peach, tangerine, passion fruit, apricot, and patchouli. It is the type of scent you can wear from morning to night.
Beauty picks- Crazy Rumors HibisKiss Lip Colour
This lip colour is not just 100% natural, it’s cruelty-free and certified vegan. I never thought that hibiscus could be so yummy on my lips, and with the subtle coral colour, it’s perfect for those days when you need some moisture and colour. The cute little tube would not look out of place in any girls bag or bathroom. Since it arrived, it’s become one of my go-to product for the lips.
Beauty picks- Nivea Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Day and Night Cream
I can’t have one without the other and it’s just as important to moisturise your skin at night. The day cream has a SPF 15 which absorbs into your skin quickly. So you don’t have to hang about waiting on it to dry. The night cream is different as it has no SPF and is really thick. I found it to be really moisturising and left me beautifully soft skin in the morning. The anti-wrinkle properties of both creams took a few weeks to appear, but overall I haven’t been left too disappointed with the end results.
Beauty picks- Balance Me Radiance Face Mask
This triple-action face mask is just the thing when you need a bit of TLC. It’s made with kaolin clay, walnut shells, and fruit acids which cleanse, exfoliate and brighten your skin. Simply smooth over your face and leave it for 5 minutes to do it’s magic and then wipe it off with a facecloth. A little bit goes a long way so you will get a good few uses out of this little bottle. It’s the perfect little extra for bathtime, and because it’s it’s 98% natural and hasn’t been tested on animals, you can really relax knowing that no bunnies were hurt.
Beauty picks- Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum
This is one of my new favourite face care products. It claims that the serum responds to individual skin needs, and that it will repair lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and uneven skin tone. Does it work? Absolutely. After two darks of using it I saw a reduction in fine lines and my skin tone had improved. After a week, those pesky lines had gone and it looked like I had been airbrushed. The serum is allergy-tested and 100% fragrance-free so it’s suitable for all skin types. I will say this, it is not a cheap product but it is one of those products that is definitely worth investing in.
Beauty Picks- Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Hand Cream
Keeping your hands soft is one of those things that can be compared to trying to clean your teeth while eating sticky toffee. This hand cream is thick and creamy, yet absorbs quickly into the skin. It’s 92% organic and uses essential oils to give it a strong fragrance of roses which reminds me of a country garden. As well as no synthetic fragrances or colours, there are no parabens, no mineral oils, or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA for short).
