Cardiff is one of the largest cities in Wales and the youngest capital city in Europe, and it’s only a stone’s throw across the water from me. So what is there to do there if I was planning a day trip? Read on and find out how you can spend a day in the Cardiff area.
I do love to be beside the seaside, and Cardiff Bay is packed with things to do. The Norwegian Church and Cafe is a restored clapboard building that was once used by Norwegian sailors who brought timber to the area. There is even a Roald Dahl connection to be found. But if you take a trip down Mermaid Quay, you will find plenty of bars and restaurants.
Cardiff Castle is packed with over 2,000 years of history and is one of the must-see attractions. If you happen to use a Cardiff dating site and need inspiration for a good first date, this place is ideal. The Summer Smoking Room in the Clock Tower is a lavishly painted in gold and red, all you need to do is climb the 101 steps to enjoy the sight. There is so much to see at the Castle, I’m not talking about stuff hanging on the walk. There are tours, sword competitions, and you can watch some real-life jousting!
The Taff Trail
Is staying fit and healthy important to you? Do you like cycling? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then you could try your had at The Taff Trail. This is a 55-mile long bike that takes a full day to complete. This sort of adventure is popular with experienced cyclists, so if you are on some senior dating sites, don’t be surprised if you see these types of things listed as favourite activities. The Taff Trail starts in Cardiff and heads off into the countryside where you can enjoy the peace and calm of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Food to be Found
No trip to another city would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. Do you know what a Welshcake is? Neither do I but I want to find out. There is a place on Mermaid Quay called Fabulous Welshcakes that serves them fresh off the bakestone. If you are on some of the dating sites in Cardiff and get asked out for a meal, then head to the Purple Poppadom and enjoy a pretty plated Indian meal. Or if you fancy a restaurant with a more romantic name, head to Casanova for some authentic Italian food.
Let’s face it, if you are out with the kids there is a good chance that they need to blow off some steam. And what is the best way to let them tire themselves out? With some activities that will allow parents to put their feet up. Cardiff Jump is one of the biggest soft indoor playparks in the UK with a huge 27,000sq to explore. But if the grownups fancy a slower paced activity, there are plenty of golf courses to choose from.
