Iron Man was the probably the movie that introduced you to the Marvel Universe way back in 2008. It’s been ten years and what feels like a million movies since then, so it’s time we had a sit-down and a watch of this Marvel classic.

The Plot
Tony Stark is a genius, billionaire, playboy who makes weapons for the US Army. Everything in his life is going pretty well until he is attacked by a group of terrorists after a weapons demonstration in Afghanistan. Injured by Stark weapons used by the terrorists, he needs an electromagnet placed in his chest to prevent the shrapnel from killing him. With the mini Arc reactor in his chest and a suit made of metal, he escapes his prison and is rescued from the desert. When he returns home, he develops his suit further and becomes Iron Man. From here, he begins to rethink his work and what he wants to achieve with his life. The only thing that stands in his way is his father’s old business partner who has been double-dealing and selling weapons to the enemy.
Thoughts on the Story
Regardless of whether you like the Marvel Universe or not, Iron Man is a great movie. Set within the context of the larger universe, it is great to see how the character progresses over the years. This movie introduces us to Stark, Pepper Potts, Jarvis, and Rhodey. The development of the Iron Man suit is funny with plenty of humour from Stark and Jarvis as they work the math and try to create the ultimate peace machine. Robert Downey Jr was made to play this role and makes the character come to life like no other actor could.
Fin
This is classed as an old one now but it is not the first in the series (that is The Incredible Hulk). If you are wanting to know what all the fuss is about, then this is the movie to start with, especially with all of the buzz around Infinity War. We see some small teasers about SHEILD and what is to come from the series. Nick Fury pops in briefly and Agent Coulson helps Pepper Potts escape the bad guys.
