If you’ve been sticking to a budget for a while, and haven’t seen a budge in the right direction, it may be time to reconsider your budget, income or both. From saving funds year-round to smart investments with side hustles, there are many ways you can improve your financial status. Below are tips to help you get on your feet.

Save year-round
If you find yourself biting your nails about a month before Christmas hits as your credit card skyrockets, consider saving for birthday and Christmas gifts year-round so that you always have a little extra cash for those presents. It is possible to save some money with some vouchers and coupons, but that depends on how savvy you are. There are plenty of ways to get coupons but one way is to sneak a peek here to see if there are any coupons that can be useful for you and your family.
There are apps that can help with this, such as Moneybox. It’s straightforward; every time you make a purchase with your debit card, the app rounds up purchases to the nearest pound, so all the “spare change” gets added to a separate account that you can use at your discretion. It’s like saving, without realizing you’re doing it.
If it’s easier for you to manually put money aside, consider having automatic deductions taken from your bank account each money or bi-weekly and set into another account just for specific events. This is also a great way to budget and save money for back-to-school clothing, or saving up for a specific item you’ve been eyeing.
Think About Long-Term Savings
Saving money isn’t about cutting costs; it’s all about setting yourself up for financial security later in life. Building smart habits early, such as budgeting carefully, paying down debt, and setting up automatic transfers for savings, can make a huge difference. It also helps to think about what you’re saving for; maybe it’s travel, a new home, or your future comfort. Planning ahead for life after work can be a strong motivator for you to stay consistent. Exploring retirement communities is a great example of this. You get an understanding of what kind of lifestyle and financial flexibility you would like to have later on, which helps to shape the choices that you make right now.
Stay on top of high-interest debt
If you have a high-interest credit card that you’re making minimum payments on, you’re likely paying more on interest than you are on principal. Consider meeting with a debt advisor to see what options you have to pay down your credit card debt. If you are able to make slightly larger payments, instead of spreading the extra funds over all your credit cards, continue making minimum payments on your low-interest credit cards, and putting more money towards the high-interest ones. This will allow you to pay off the principal quicker so you can save more money long term.
Use a side hustle to help you Invest wisely
You may be able to make ends meet with a little extra money, but if you’re looking to greatly increase your income, aim for a little side hustle, like mentioned in this earlier blog. What a side hustle means for you might be entirely different from the next person. If you are familiar with foreign trading, you may want to consider speculative trading. Forex spreads are a great way to learn about trading opportunities worldwide.
Plus, nowadays, there are so many trading tools and platforms out there that getting involved has never been easier. Just be sure to compare a few different options to find the right ones for you. For instance, if trading cryptocurrencies appeals to you, this Trading App Vergleich (comparison) on the Kryptoszene website can help you to discover some of the most popular options.
When you create income from a side hustle, whether it be tutoring the neighbourhood children on math, or teaching music lessons on the side, make sure you’re investing this income in the same way you do with your regular income. Don’t treat it only as fun spending money, because the rewards of putting it into investments opportunities or high-interest bank accounts, will have you reaping higher rewards down the road.
Use the 30-day rule
If you are looking to make a big purchase, think on it for thirty days. Set the budget for what “big” means to you, and when you would like an item above that price, unless it’s a necessity or emergency, don’t purchase it until you’ve thought about it for thirty full days.
While you likely won’t become a millionaire overnight, these tricks can help you save money while you continue to budget.
Savings advice is always welcome to get the most with the least effort!
We are totally on save mode in our home. These are excellent ideas. I am incredibly thankful for this resource.
I love this. I’m all about saving money. I always put some back into savings.
Wow these are some pretty good money saving tips. I always save for Christmas stay for Christmas gifts because I have to give a lot at that time. I also like to save up for emergencies.

We use the 30 day rule a lot in our house. That and anything that’s $50 or more has to be approved by both of us. That helps us to avoid any unnecessary impulse purchases. There have been times that I’ve had to talk my husband down and he’s done the same for me. Other times I plan on talking to him about something and when I get the opportunity, before I even bring it up, I realize that it’s not actually something we need lol
The 30 day rule is smart. We always commit to sleeping on it, and then we typically have a better idea of what we should do. But 30 days is even better.
Those are very helpful ideas. I would add never go shoping when angry or stressed, as it will make you spend more.
This is what I really need these days on ow to save more and earn more. These tips are quite helpful, I need to be motivated tho.
There are some great tips there. I’ve never actually heard of the 30 day rule, but I tend to talk myself out of purchases, even small ones, within about 30 seconds by asking myself if I really need it.
These are great and practical tips. Thank you for sharing. I need to practice the wait 30 day one for sure!
Love all of these things. Avoiding debt I think is hugely important. Sometimes people try to be frugal, yet have a lot of high interest debt. Sometimes the focus should shift from being frugal to paying off debt completely.
Great tricks. I like it the most, easy, simple and working. I don’t like the feeling like a do a lot to save so such tips work best for me
