The Book
In the space of ten years, Sophia Amoruso has gone from high school dropout to CEO, something she never believed was possible. #Girlboss is not just a memoir, it was described as a powerful manifesto for ambitious young women by Vanity Fair. Within the pages of #Girlboss, there are stories and wakeup calls that plenty of young women will relate to. The book has been laid out in easy to read chapters that share life experiences, funny stories, and useful business tips for the budding female enterpriser. Sophia has led an interesting life that is far from the normal path of the CEO. While most people head to business school to learn the tools of their trade, Sophia used her wits and passion to create a brand that people loved, even though she did it all by accident.
Thoughts on the Book
#Girlboss is packed with stories and epiphany moments that have helped me to get a lot of stuff in perspective recently. I have been checking out a lot of different places for help and inspiration for this site (and to make it super successful) but I’ve been left deflated with a lot of the fluff and shitty advice. Whether you agree with Sophia’s life choices or not, it doesn’t matter. This is a badass businesswoman who has laid it all out there so that you can gain some wisdom from her experience.
Thoughts on the Author
As I read through the book, I honestly thought that myself and Sophia may have been separated at birth. Some of the things she describes before she launched Nasty Girl aren’t a kick in the arse off some of the things I did at around the same time. But instead of launching a multi-million dollar fashion brand, I had babies. Sophia is the shining star that all of us bad girls need to remind us to keep going. She is not just a Nasty Gal or a #Girlboss, she is a badass who is flying the flag for all of the freaks and losers who have chosen the path less traveled.
Overall
This is a great book us ladies who have made some questionable decisions in our past and believe that we don’t deserve the success that comes from busting your balls. Even if you don’t fall into this category, it is worth a read because of the advice that Sophia dishes out. By telling everyone what she did, it can help you think outside the box and help you to get on the path for success.
