How to start the day like a Girl Boss

Everyone wants their day to go a bit better, but when you are the Girl Boss you need to start the day with a bang. Here are some top tips to help you start the day right and be the best that you can be.

Wake Up Early

This is a tough one and a lot of people struggle with it, but if you can get into the habit of getting up early to start your day you will see the benefits. Not only will you have more to prepare for your day, but you can also chill out knowing that you won’t have a frantic rush on your hands.

Let in the Fresh Air and the Daylight

As soon as you manage to get out of bed, get the windows and curtains open! Yes, even in the middle of winter. When you open your windows, you let the indoors pollutants out, even if it is for five minutes to help freshen the room. In the summer, you might sleep with the windows open so throw open the curtains and get some sunshine in.

Do Not Check Your Phone

I have a full post about the benefits about not being on your phone 24/7 so be tempted to pick it up first thing. Our phones are wonderful little devices that have made our lives easier in so many ways. But they can also suck you in and turn your brain to mush if you sit glued to it for too long. Do not be tempted to check your phone first thing, trust me, you will thank me for it.

Burn Some Incense

I love burning incense any time of the day but doing it first thing can really help you to focus. Not only will you fill your room with a gentle fragrance, but incense sticks also don’t burn for very long. Why is that a bonus? Because they will burn for a while but will probably burn out before you leave the house for the day so you won’t have that nagging doubt in your mind if you had lit a candle.

Meditate

Meditation is one of the key things for a Girl Boss because it calms the mind and brings it into the now. If your mind is scattered and worried about some random thing, your day will not go well. You need to focus so focus on what matters, not the unimportant stuff that can cloud your mind.

Rehydrate with Hot Lemon Water

Lemon water has a ton of different benefits and is easy to make. Just squeeze one lemon and mix the juice with a cup of hot water (but not boiling), and drink with a straw. Not only is this packed with vitamin C,  it is great for digestion too, but not great for your teeth. Just remember to rinse your mouth out with water after drinking it and don’t brush your teeth for 1 hour so that it doesn’t cause damage to the enamel of your teeth.

Listen to Positive Affirmations

Ever notice how negative you can be? Start the day off with some positive affirmations so that you can tackle any problems head-on with a good attitude. Captain Jack Sparrow said it best, “the problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude about the problem”. If you have a good attitude, there is no problem that can’t be tackled.

Yoga and Stretch

A quick round of sun salutation will have you feeling like a million quid and it only takes 10 minutes! There are so many benefits to yoga so why not get some stretching and gentle exercise in before you face the day?

Get your day started with a fruit bowl

Everyone knows that you should be eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, so why not start your day off with a bowl of fruit? When you are out and about, you probably don’t want to be snacking on soggy apple slices, so get them while they are fresh from your fridge and prepared in your kitchen.

Have a nutritious breakfast

A nutritious breakfast can be many different things. From poached eggs to beans on toast. but you can make these as fancy as you want. Wholegrain with nut-butter and topped with a banana is a breakfast that really packs a punch. Or you could be really fancy and make yourself some muffins as part of your food prep to enjoy in the mornings.

Morning Skincare Routine

This is something that is completely personal to you. Do you have a shower and cover your self in lotions? Or will you just wash your face because you have showered the night before? Whatever the answer is, would out and know what your routine is so that you can do it blindfolded.

Give Thanks and Be Patient

You might be ready for the day ahead but a lot of people won’t be. Some people will have slept in or just suck at mornings. The problem is that they take it out on you if you happen to wander into their cross-hairs. Be patient and be thankful that you have taken the time to get organised and are ready to face the day when so many people aren’t.

  1. I wish I was a morning person and have a routine, but I love sleeping in. I do however like to wake up naturally, so I never set an alarm on. And it works, as I usually wake up at the same time every day.

  2. I like these ideas but I will have to throw my phone far from my bed so that I don’t rea h for it first thing, also I never have breakfast so I should change it.

  3. Great ideas! My problem is waking up early and actually focusing when it comes to meditation. I plan on doing a home birth and one of the most important tips is to meditate to get through the contractions. I Will start taking it more seriously lol

  4. I’m trying so hard to wake up in the morning with enough time to work out, but I never have the time to drive to my local gym and workout. But love your suggestion of doing home yoga! So much easier to do it in the comfort of my own home and a great way to start off the day!

  5. Great tips. I think my favorite is, “Don’t check your phone.” That is such a time suck. It totally derails my good intentions when I get sucked into my email or a game.

  6. I read this list and I am tired!I wake up early, because kids. I drink coffee, because tired. Perhaps, I should try a few of these other things!

  7. I am a morning person because my kids need to go to school. But I always reach for my iPhone first thing in the morning. Bad habit, I know. I’ve been trying to use it less, but keep on finding more reasons to use it. Give thanks and be patient is a good way to start the day. A positive attitude will go a long way.

  8. I used to start my day off like this, but since I’ve had kids, I just want to sleep in when I can. Now I get up, get them ready for school, and then get ready when they are gone. I look like a homeless person when I drop them off, but I make up for it a little later.
