The Beauty Edit || May 2019

I’ve been holding on to a lot of empty bottles recently because I haven’t done an empties post or the beauty edit in ages. My bad! In fact, there were so many products to go through, I couldn’t fit them all into one post. So, I’ve pulled them all out and went through them with a fine comb tooth to give you the low-down on what is what. Are all of these products good? No, but you won’t know which is which until you read on to discover your next hair care product to love.

A big trend I’ve noticed over the last few months is people making the switch to more natural products, looking for packaging that can be easily recycled or is recycled, and showing support for animal and planet based charities. Noughty to The Rescue Conditioner is just one of the many new products that is getting some real exposure at the moment. And if a product isn’t as natural as we would like, companies are still trying to get onboard. Is it just me or does Garnier Ultimate Blends Strength Restorer Shampoo remind you of bees and what is happening with them?

Since greeting my newest arrival, my hair has been a disaster! The bleaching and stripping the colour over the last few years has left it super dry and really hard to style. If I’m completely honest, I could do with getting a good whack off the bottom and have some of the damaged parts chopped off. My absolute favourite thing for my hair has to be Nexxus Encapsulate Sérum. Hands down, this has to be one of the best things I’ve used on my hair to help get a brush through it. Percy & Reed Smooth Sealed and Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil For Fine Hair was another good contender for hair helper as well as Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil.

Speaking of my hair being damaged from bleaching, the shade of blue that was in it was Renbow Crazy Color Semi-Permanent Hair Color Dye Capri Blue and it normally took two bottles to cover the full length of my hair. When my hair was getting bleached, I really loved using Batiste oil mist.

As you know, I love teaming some shampoos up with random conditioners and I think I’ve found the perfect combo. Tints of Nature Hydrate Shampoo is amazing when it is teamed up with Philip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner. Although, these can be a pricey combo, but totally worth it. If you don’t fancy shelling out for those two, there is still my favourite cheap and cheerful hair care duo from Herbal Essences Biorenew Coconut Milk Hydrate.

Or there is Herbal Essences Ignite My Color Vibrant Color Shampoo with Rose Essences.

Another newish one is Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo & Conditioner with Honey Scentbut if you fancy an oldie but a goodie for coloured hair, I really like using L’Oreal Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo. I’ve been using L’Oreal on and off for years and it has never disappointed me when it comes to value for money.

Have you ever looked at a bottle and thought that you should try it? That is what happened with Mane ‘n Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. I instantly thought of glossy horse manes and Black Beauty galloping through green fields, and you know what? I wouldn’t mind galloping through green fields with a glossy mane (try getting that image out of your head). It wasn’t what I expected and it didn’t do a bad job but I was a bit disappointed that it condition my hair enough that it didn’t get filled with tats.

Some of you may remember that I had blue hair but I had to change it back to a darker shade because bleaching it was destroying my hair.  Rather than go to the hairdressers (seriuosly, who has time for that?!) I threw one of these bad boys in. I started with Schwarzkopf Live Intense XXL Permanent Colour Deep Black and once that had washed out a few weeks later, I switched to Schwarzkopf Live Intensive Colour Cosmic Blue. I’ll be keeping Comic Blue until my hair turns grey, then I’ll opt for a lighter shade because there is no way that I would consider bleaching my hair again.

Speaking of the damage that has been done, I really want to switch up my hair routine with some eco-friendly gear. Enter Maria Nila True Soft Shampoo and Conditioner. These were little dinky bottles that I got my mitts on and I was well impressed.  Sometimes when I get a product that is ticking a lot of my eco-warrior boxes, it can fall flat with the performance. These didn’t and I was really impressed with the end result.

If you have been here before, you will know I’m a bit OCD about how I manage my hair products and that I like to keep random bottles of conditioner on hand. Recently, I’ve been using a lot of Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Coconut Conditioner and Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume Conditioner for Fine Hair because they both smell nice. Pantene Repair & Protect Conditioner has also been a big favourite of mine for its detangling factor. But what I can’t work out is why Tesco conditioner keeps making its way into in my bathroom, it does nothing for my hair.

The final shampoo set I’ll talk about in this posting of the beauty edit is Schwarzkopf Supersoft Ultimate Shine Superfruit Shampoo + Conditioner. I had picked these up because they were cheap and cheerful looking for in the bathroom. For the price of them, they did a really good job of getting my hair clean and leaving it soft.
