Let's Go! || Lancashire

As time goes on, I find myself lusting after countryside views and houses that are filled with a certain Jane Austen aesthetic. Could there be anything better than daydreaming about a romantic trip when we are stuck inside? While we have been under the self-imposed house arrest that comes with the pandemic, I have been looking online to help fill the void of getting out and about. So, let’s take a virtual trip to Lancashire and explore.

Food and drink

So, you arrive in Lancashire with your dream date for a night on the town after lockdown has been lifted, what do you do? There is plenty of food and drink that you can enjoy when you actually arrive in Lancashire, and not all of it is Aunt Betty’s hotpots. Ok, there is the famous Lancashire hotpot, something that you should definitely try out once. However, if you are feeling extra brave when you head for date night, you could try a taste of black pudding, the infamous sausage that is made with pig blood. I know that seems kind of a weird choice of food but nobody said regional foods were normal. If you fancy something a bit more “normal”, you can check out some of the fresh seafood that can be found in Morecambe Bay. To wash down these delightful tastes, you should head to J Atkinson & Co., one of the country’s oldest tea and coffee merchants.

History

I sometimes wonder if the history of a place puts people off from going there, even if they have no interest in history. That might be a question that is best posed on a Lancashire dating site because this place has some interesting tales to tell! Lancashire has a dark stain on its history in the form of the Pendle Witch Trials. In 1612, 12 people were put on trial for witchcraft, 10 were executed, and Pendle was put on the map for witchcraft. Mass witchcraft trials were not common in England at the time, and these are some of the best documented and give us a real insight into the world at the time. Today, to mark the trails, you can see a statue of Alice Nutter, one of the young victims who was executed. This was not the only thing that has happened here, Lancashire has a long history that is packed with drama from across the ages.

Get outside

Is there anything better than having a quiet walk around a tiny village with your significant other? I think a dating agency Lancashire could easily sell day trips with that vision, and there are plenty of cute villages to wander around. Downham is famous for its lack of indicators of modern life, you would be hard pushed to find a tv aerial or a satellite dish here. Because of this lack of modern technology on show, the village is often used to film period dramas. Weaving between the villages there are waterways and green fields as far as the eye can see. Who would love to see something like that right now? Honestly, this sounds like the perfect date, even in the middle of a pandemic.

Stay inside

If getting outside to meet people isn’t your thing and you just want to chill out in a hotel room for a while, then I’ve got you covered. Lancashire has a huge collection of hotels to suit any taste and budget, perfect if you prefer using dating apps to meet the one instead of cruising around the bars. I’m not going to list them all, there are over one thousand possible hotels in the area, so you have plenty to choose from. There are large hotels with spas and swimming pools, historical castles with modern service, to little bed and breakfasts. Picking a nice hotel that you can spend some time in might be a good idea, because once lockdown is over we might need a little time before we feel comfortable exploring the world again.
