It wasn’t all that long ago that I popped a post up about activities in Surrey. There were so many things to do, I had to do another post! So read on for more ideas and things to do in Surrey, but this time I’m doing one for my fellow nerds and geeks with educational ideas and trips.

History
If you don’t already know, I’m a massive history nerd. If you didn’t know that, then you should go and buy my book to see the dept of my nerdiness. But if you are a fellow history lover and want to see some of the places that have helped to shape the world that we know, then there are plenty of places to discover in Surrey. There are the usual places, like the palaces and gardens, but if you dig a little deeper, there is a wealth of history all around the county. There are loads of museums that explore the heritage of the area as far back as the Bronze Age but you can trace your own family tree too in the Surrey History Centre.
Science
One of the big loves in my life is science. Sure, I’m a big witchy goth (sometimes) but that doesn’t mean that I hate science. In fact, if a certain science nerd ever wants to take me for a weekend in Surrey, I have plenty of ideas. The Winchester Science Centre is the South of England’s interactive science and technology centre with the largest standalone planetarium in the UK. The centre is open 7 days a week and provides an exciting, hands-on science experience to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of great scientists. What can I say? Stars are pretty and I wanna look at them with someone. And if you want to do it for free, Kenley Observatory is free entry when it is open to the public on Saturday evenings from autumn to early summer. What a great way to spend an evening with some of your favourite people and you can look through telescopes and spot planets and other celestial bodies
English Classics
When you see a beautiful picture of the English countryside, you might also think of some of the great storytellers of the past. Mr. Darcey wouldn’t look out of place on an English hillside. Ah, yes! Good old Surrey Dating must be a breeze with those rolling hillsides! But it’s not just romance that is set in Surrey, sci-fi is too. H.G Wells set The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine in Surrey. Does that make those rolling hills the original home of sci-fi?

Arts and Crafts
You might not think that arts and crafts are nerdy things but every geek needs to unwind from a hardcore day of expanding horizons. The definition of the word craft is ” the skill of making things by hand”, so a lot of things can fall under this term. Craft beer and ale is one thing that falls under this term, but so is knitting. Try your hand at painting some pottery at Mrs. Potts Place as part of a workshop or have a look through the local shops for some handcrafted items that are unique.
