Taking a mini-break is never far from my mind and after my little trip to London a while back, I thought I’d have a little look at England again. Just south of the city is Surrey, a county with plenty of history and places to explore. So read on to see if Surrey could be next on your bucket list.

Royal Visits
With Surrey being just south of London City, you are within a stone’s throw of some of the well-known haunts of the Royal Family. One of these places (or palaces) is Hampton Court Palace, the home of the Flamboyant Henry VIII. He is most associated with this majestic palace, which he extended and developed after acquiring it in the 1520s. The palace’s many royal occupants have ensured the palace has fabulous furnishings, tapestries, and paintings. It is set in beautiful formal gardens, which include the famous maze and the Great Vine. There are over 60 acres of gardens to explore including the Maze, the Great Vine, and Privy Garden. Henry VIII was Hampton Court’s first royal owner, and his magnificent public rooms still survive today.
Get Your Heart Pumping
Is there anything as exciting for Surrey Singles as a rollercoaster ride? Maybe, maybe not. But there are plenty to choose from at Chessington World of Adventures. There are over 40 rides and attractions in 10 themed lands, a Zoo which gets you face-to-face with over 1000 exotic animals including Lions, Tigers, and Monkeys, plus daily live shows and seasonal events. Thorpe Park theme park is located only 20 miles from central London and is found on an island. And if you get your timings right, you can miss the queues on certain days and only have to wait 5-10 minutes for the rides.
Head to the Big City
If the Surrey Dating scene doesn’t do it for you, you can hop on a train and head to London. Surrey is a place of peace and quiet but that isn’t for everyone. Sometimes, it’s great to get into the bustle of London to see the sights there. There are too many ideas and places to visit for me to list here but there are plenty of tours that can take you from Surrey to London. I enjoyed my own walking tour (aka the marathon) when I did it, so there is plenty to see without having to hand over your cold, hard cash. Just remember to take your camera with a full battery to capture the sights along the River Thames and in the streets.
Food and Drink
One of my favourite things to do is eat and Surrey is packed with amazing places for the foodie explorer. There are plenty of vineyards and wineries to discover within the county, and most of them give tours and tastings of the goodies. But if wine isn’t your thing, there are plenty of breweries to explore too. The Hogs Back Brewery is the largest independent brewery in Surrey and has plenty of to offer the beer lover in your life. Not only do they brew their own beer, they have a massive off-license which has beers from all over the world.
Get back to Nature
It might come as a surprise to most people but Surrey is known as a place of great natural beauty. There are around 20 different wildlife areas that you can explore, some of them even have cafes or restaurants on-site so that you can get something to nibble on while you gaze at the sights. If you like nature but fancy something, well, a bit fancier, there are plenty of gardens that you can visit instead. RHS Garden Wisley is one of the most recommended even though it is pricey to get into. There are richly planted borders, a luscious rose garden, and a state-of-the-art Glasshouse to explore.
