Eating Out and Having Fun Again

Eating Out and Having Fun Again

If there is one thing that you should all know about me by now, it’s that I love food. And seeing as we can now eat out again, I thought that now would be a great time to have a think about tasting the local cuisine again. So, are we all ready to start eating out again and have some fun?

It’s my birthday!

For those of you who don’t know, my birthday is 3rd December. Yep, I just celebrated the anniversary of my 21st birthday (again). I couldn’t help but think about my birthdays of the past. On my 17th birthday, a friend went with me to the local shopping centre to get my photo taken for my driving licence. Looking back on my Facebook memories, I’ve had a lot of birthdays out on the town. From the local bars to booking out entire restaurants, I’ve done it all. Because it was a regular birthday (aka nothing special about this year) I decided to stay at home and order in rather than head out. Also, my husband was working late and it would have been weird to go out without him. Will I go out next year? I’m not sure. I might end up heading out for a meal with my husband and the kids rather than have a big party. My 40th is a different matter entirely, and I will expect balloons and a party in my honour.

Making it regular

A few years ago, I made a decision to ditch the takeaways and treat myself once a month to a meal out instead. But then I developed the most god-awful IBS and struggled with meals out. There is nothing like the thought of pain and angst because the restaurant you have been to has used something in their food that could set you off. However, over the last year, I have managed to get it under control to the point that I can leave the house without panicking. Now that restaurants are opening up again, it might be a good time to book some nights out. It is even easier than ever thanks to a website booking system and booking apps. Of course, there are still restrictions in place but it is still possible to enjoy a nice meal out.

Keeping it local

As much as I love trying food from around the world, I think we need to focus on the local delights that we have on our doorstep. For one thing, the best Indian curries in the world can only be found in India, so why waste your time on something else? Eating out in Ireland has a very different vibe than the rest of the world. For one, there is a lot of seafood that is included in the dishes. There is also an abundance of potato-based dishes. As much as we enjoy trying other food, trying some of the local flavours is a great way to enjoy what is on our doorsteps and keep our carbon footprint low. If you read the menus in Irish restaurants, a lot of them will have dishes that list where the food is from, such as scampi from the local fishermen or vegetables from the local farmers.

Over the last few years, eating out has taken a knock. If you would like to see your local restaurants thrive once again, think about eating out or ordering a takeaway from them.
