Donald Trump has been in the public eye for many years now. Since he decided to run as a Republican candidate for the Presidency, his life is under the microscope more than ever. Who is the real Donald Trump? Here are 13 facts about “The Donald” that you probably didn’t know.
He’s been married three times
It’s not surprising that Donald has had his share of marriages. He has been married a total of three times. His first marriage to Ivana Zelnickova lasted 15 years. His second marriage to Marla Maples lasted 6 years. He is currently married to Melania Knauss and they have been together for over 10 years. He has had children with each of his wives, giving him a total of 5 children.
Since Donald announced his bid for the Presidency his political movement over the years has been called into question. Between 2001 and 2009 he was a supporter of the Democratic party. From 1999 until 2001 he was a supporter of the Reform Party. But since the 1990’s he has jumped back and forth with his support for the Republican party.
He’s a big sports fan
Over the years Donald has dipped his toe in and out of different sports teams. In 1983 he bought the New Jersey Generals football team. He was also a financial advisor for Mike Tyson at one time. He expressed an interest in buying the Buffalo Bills in 2014 after the death of Ralph Wilson Jr.
He has two hot daughters
When you of Donald’s kids, your mind probably went to Ivanka. But did you know about his other daughter, Tiffany? Tiffany is the only child to come from Donald’s second marriage to Marla Maples. The 21 year old blonde bombshell grew up out of the public eye and has launched a pop singing career.
A lot of Americans can trace their family tree back generations to the first landings a few hundred years ago. Donald’s grandparents on his father’s side had immigrated from Germany in 1885. Donalds mothers was born in Scotland and immigrated to America at the beginning of the 1900’s. This makes him a first generation American on his mother’s side.
A place to rest your head
Donald has two different houses to call home. He has his place in Trump Tower in New York but he also owns Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. Mar-A-Lago was build in the 1920’s and was supposed to be used as a get away for the President from the 1970’s onwards. Donald bought the property in 1985 and had it renovated.
He’s just Donny from the Block
Donald was born in 1946 in Queens, New York. He lived in Jamaica Estates while he was attending high school. He ended up being a bit of a handful and his father had to ship him off to military school at 13 years old. He then went on to Fordham University in the Bronx.

Donald has had a few awards over the years. He was given a Honorary Doctor of Business from Liberty University in 2012. His most surprising awards would be his Hollywood Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And he is included in the WWE Hall of Fame after his part in Wrestlemania 23.
As well as having five children, Donald also has 7 grandchildren. His two eldest children with his first wife have kicked off the next generation of Trumps. His son, Donald Trump Jr. has five children with his wife Vanessa. His daughter Ivanka has two children with her husband Jared Kushner. No news on his son Eric gifting Grandad Donald with more grand-babies as yet.
Donald might be in the running for the Presidency in 2016 but this isn’t the first name he has been been in the spotlight for the White House. In 2011 it was rumoured that Donald was interested in becoming a candidate for the 2012 elections. He shut those rumours down in 2011. But maybe it was those rumours that made him think of running for 2016? Only Donald knows the truth behind that rumour.
He was nearly in Vietnam
When the Vietnam War was raging, Donald came of age to be drafted. He could have ended up serving in Vietnam if he didn’t get a high draft number in the draft lottery. He wasn’t drafted earlier because he was still studying in college and had treatment for a medical problem. He considers himself to have gotten such a high number.
Health is Wealth
Donald has plenty of interests in sport but considered his health very important. Donald is completely tee-total and doesn’t drink any type of alcohol. In 2000 he gave his backing for Universal Healthcare and has considered himself “a liberal” when it comes to healthcare. His views on the healthcare system have changed a bit since then.
A man of religion
Donald has been a Presbyterian and a Protestant for his whole life. He considers himself to have a good relationship with his church. His daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism from her Protestant faith. And Donald had no problem with it. He considers himself to be blessed and honoured to have a Jewish daughter and Jewish grandchildren.
