At the beginning of the year, I set myself a challenge to be a millionaire by the end of the year. I was planning on sharing words of wisdom with you every week in order to keep you informed and motivated. But I hit a problem. I got involved with blogger outreach programmes and everything went a bit nutty and I had no time to update you all on this challenge and how I was getting on. Ah well, no time like the present.
What is blogger outreach?
Blogger outreach is something you see all the time but probably didn’t realise what it was. This is a way for brands to connect with people via a blogger. It comes in many different forms. Some brands send products out for bloggers to test, other pay for adverts and mentions. You have probably seen it a thousand times on this site alone with the amount of beauty products I have been sent over the years. This is all a form of blogger outreach to help connect brands with people.
How does this work for you?
If you are a blogger and want to get involved with something like this, you need to be aware of a few things. First, most places want bloggers with their own self-hosted sites. For products being tested, some brands don’t mind and don’t factor that in. But payments, that cold-hard cash, you will need a self-hosted site. This is for a variety of reasons but mainly because self-hosted bloggers are businesses rather than just a hobby. You should also do your research and find out about the outreach company. There are plenty out there who are happy to take advantage of bloggers by not paying them for their work.
Why get involved?
Blogging is not for everyone but for some people it can be a great way to top up your income. Stay at home mum? There are a huge amount of mummy bloggers who are sharing their wisdom and woes about parenting. Interested in beauty? Beauty bloggers can get paid thousands for trying products and blogging about them. Like cars? People love to get information about the latest models that is easy to understand and relatable. No matter the area, there are paid blogging jobs available.
I’m a brand, can I get involved?
Absolutely! Brands can also benefit from blogger outreach because bloggers can connect you with your audience. You might want a post on their site about what you do or send them your product to test. It’s a bloggers job to get your business in front of people and let them know that you exist. Using bloggers as a way to advertise is one of the fastest growing ways to advertise. In reality, you can’t go emailing every blogger in the hope that they will get involved, but if you use a blogger outreach service, they have a list of reliable bloggers that are willing to work with you.
