Plot
Pete is a cheeky parakeet who only has eyes for mum. He is horrible to everyone else in the house and nobody wants to play with him. But when mum has to go away for work, he gets left behind with the rest of the family. They aren’t his biggest fans, so how will he cope without mum? Will he learn that his bad attitude won’t get him anywhere and that he needs to be nice to the rest of the family?
Thoughts on the Story
This is a cute story with an easy to read rhyme. I’ve read plenty of rhyming books in my time and there have been many books that have gotten shoved to the back of the bookcase because they are complete tongue twisters. One of the great things about this story is the words that are used like “obscene”. Let’s face it, the best way for kids to expand their vocabulary is being exposed to as many different words as possible. As far as rhyming books go, this a long one, maybe nearly double the length of some the best sellers. Not a bad thing in my book, you definitely get more bang for your buck.

Cheryl Lee-White is an author and blogger from Epsom in Surrey, and now she lives in Taunton in Somerset with her family. Her partner and her three girls, aged 10, 8, and 7. Her goal is to lead a simple and happy life with her family and teaching her girls important life skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.
Overall
This is a fun book that would make the ideal gift for any child for Christmas or a birthday. The story itself is simple- if you are mean to others then they won’t want to play with you. This is a story about friendship and playing nice, a great message to give to young children. Cheryl has also been very upfront about her publishing journey on her site and how hard it can be.
