Is It Time To Move House?

Is It Time To Move House

You bought the home of your dreams. You thought it was your forever home. But now, a few years later, the love has faded and you’re wondering, is it time to move house again? There are many reasons why it might be time to sell up and move on, but here are just a few.

You spend a lot of time looking at property websites

We all love looking at property websites and watching property television programmes. But when it becomes almost a hobby and you’re spending every lunch hour browsing the properties on your local Essex estate agents website or on property portals such as Rightmove, perhaps your subconscious is trying to tell you something?

Your house is too small

The most obvious reason why people want to move house is that their current home has become too small. Perhaps your family is expanding and there’s always a queue for the bathroom. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a house with more than one bathroom so you can have a wee without someone bashing on the door demanding to be let in? Or maybe you’re working from home now and you’d love a room to call your office, instead of perching on the corner of the kitchen table.

Your house is too big

On the other hand, perhaps your children have all left home and now you’re rattling around in a home that’s too big for you. There’s no point paying higher charges for everything – heating, council tax, etc. – when you’ve got rooms you don’t even use, so maybe downsizing is a good idea. A smaller house means less cleaning too, yay.

You keep wanting to add bits

Instead of lusting over summer houses, extensions, attic conversions, conservatories and all the other ways you can add bits to your current place to mould it into your dream home, wouldn’t it be easier just to buy a house that suits you in the first place? Yes, you can add bits to your house but do you really want to live with the disruption, noise and mess for months on end?

Things you weren’t bothered about now annoy you

You may have moved into your current home thinking there were things that weren’t ideal but that you could live with. Further down the line, however, you’ve decided that you really can’t live with them. Perhaps you thought a front door that led directly into the living room gave your house a cute, cosy, cottagey feel but now it just bugs you that you’re sitting next to the front door when you’re watching Married at First Sight. Or maybe you loved the idea of an attic room but the actual reality of a house with two flights of stairs is more than your knees can take.

Also, open plan is all very well and gives a feeling of space but where do you go when you need your own space away from the rest of the household? Or is the opposite true? You wanted separate rooms but now you’re feeling cramped and claustrophobic? You really can’t tell how well you can live with something until you’re actually living with the situation. So if the things that you thought wouldn’t bother you are now really bugging you, it’s probably time to sell up and move on.

Is it time to move house?

These are just a few of the reasons why it might be time to move house. These reasons may match your current thinking, or maybe you have other things on your mind such as annoying neighbours, increasing crime rate or the proliferation of new builds that are suddenly springing up all around you. Keep in mind your current situation when you’re looking for your next property though and hopefully, your next home will be your forever one.
