Hey, no one’s perfect, right? Therefore, we can all be prone to making a few mistakes in our lives, so we shouldn’t sweat over our blunderous errors more than we should. However, in some instances, our mistakes can put a dent in our finances, so we should try to avoid these as much as possible. And in the context of this article, these include the mistakes we could potentially make with our home decor.

Here are some of the mistakes you need to watch out for.
Mistake #1: Making a mess of your room’s colour scheme
Your home is your own, so in one sense, you can choose the colours that suit you. However, if you are looking to create a sense of zen in your home – that feeling of peace and contentment – it can be thrown off if you have too many contrasting colours. Decor experts suggest such colour combinations as green & pink, orange & red, and purple & yellow, are particularly problematic. So, think about this when you’re looking at paint for your walls, trying to choose the right rug, and when you’re considering what furniture to buy. Use a colour wheel to help you make sensible decisions.
Mistake #2: Failing to measure up properly
Size matters when it comes to your furnishings, so you should always measure up before purchasing something. After all, you wouldn’t want to bring home a sofa only to discover that it takes up most of your living room space, or a bed, only to discover that it doesn’t actually fit through your front door. Measure the length and width of your living space, take your tape measure to the furniture store, and if buying online, check the product description for size details before putting anything in your virtual basket.
Mistake #3: Following trends for the wrong reason
In your bid to give your home the ‘wow factor,’ you might be tempted to go for the latest trend in home decor. There’s nothing overtly wrong with this; however, you do need to think carefully as you need to make sure you are buying into a trend for the right reason. Don’t fit out your home with the latest aesthetic if you don’t actually like it. Many of us buy into the latest fad because we think we should or because we want to appear fashionable, but at the end of the day, we have to enjoy our home, and we won’t if the latest trend doesn’t suit our tastes. It can be expensive too, especially if you’re prone to regular makeovers to keep up with the latest fads. So, while you can follow trends if you want to, your better bet might be to go for something timeless, as this way, you will have something that will last longer, and might also be more attuned to your personal tastes.
If you make a mistake with your home decor, you either have to live with it or suffer the expense when trying to rectify what you have done. Be mindful of the mistakes we have mentioned, therefore, and think carefully the next time you decide to make any changes within your home.
