Moving house can often be one of the most stressful things that you do. Not to mention one of the most expensive things. There might be a lot of reasons why you are considering moving home. It could be a change in job meaning you need to move closer or relocate. It might be that you just need more space. The one thing a lot of buyers struggle to decide upon is whether they want a brand new home, or a house that might need a little work also known as a renovation project. There are benefits and negatives to both options, so here are some views on each that may help you make this decision yourself in the future.

Brand new home
One of the first things you might consider is a brand new home, and this can be an excellent move to make if you already feel like you have enough on your plate. There are many house builders such as Redrow around that you can visit and check out the show homes. A quick look online will enable you to identify where the next new housing estate is being built. There are, of course, benefits and drawbacks to a new home. So here are some of the things to consider.
The benefits
There are some very obvious benefits to a new home. One being that the house itself is completely brand new. From a new kitchen to a bathroom that has never been used, these are the things that often some people dream about. The house is pretty much ready to move into and to put your own stamp on the place. Neutral colours on the walls and a blank canvas. If you are early enough, you may even be able to choose your kitchen and bathroom designs.
The drawbacks
Like anything, there are some drawbacks to a new build house. The first one might be the size of the plot and the house itself. While it may be a four bedroomed home, for example, the rooms may not be as generous in size as a house that was built twenty or thirty years ago. A house builder is looking to make the most of the land that they have, so they will attempt to build as many houses as they can, which often means that you get a reduced outside area as well. The other drawback might be the quality. Yes everything is brand new, but it may not be the highest specification, or you may have to pay extra for high spec fixtures and fittings, which of course, add on to the price. Last of all, it might be more expensive.
Renovation
Renovating a home could give you all of the fear, and that is understandable. After all, not all of us are gifted with DIY skills and a visual mind. However, renovating can often give you the chance to get more value for your money initially. A renovation project could be as simple as something that requires modernising or a fresh coat of paint, or it could be more extraordinary like an extension or adding rooms on to the property. There are benefits to this and also drawbacks, so we explore some of those now to help you make the right decision.
The benefits
The major benefit is the opportunity for space. Older properties tend to be more generous in terms of rooms sizes and also garden plots. It gives you the chance to get great value for money and an opportunity to increase the value of the property with the work that you do. You also get the chance to be in control of the changes and design the perfect home for you and your family. Choosing things such as carpets and worktop surfaces, to tiles and fixtures. You can make any change you want and it will be your choice to do it.
The drawbacks
Renovating isn’t for the faint hearted, and it requires a lot of calm and being able to handle stressful situations. Renovating also requires funding. Once you have bought the place you will need funds in the account in order to start the work. Sometime people don’t have access to the funds straight away which can mean living in a house that isn’t to your taste or is in need of being fixed up soon.
Whichever route you desire to go down, let’s hope you are able to make an informed decision that is right for you and your family.
