What to Pack

No matter where your hiking destination is, there are some essential items that every hiker should pack. Here are some must-haves:

  • First aid kit: You never know when an emergency might arise, so it’s always best to come prepared with a first-aid kit. Ensure it contains bandages, antiseptic cream or wipes, ibuprofen, tweezers, and scissors. Depending on where you are going, consider adding other items, such as snake bite kits or antihistamines.
  • Water and snacks: Hydration is critical when hiking – even if it doesn’t seem like you need water while walking uphill or downhill. Bring plenty of water in refillable bottles or hydration packs, along with some snacks such as energy bars or trail mix.
  • Sun protection: If you plan to spend several hours in direct sunlight, make sure to pack sunscreen (SPF 30+), sunglasses, and a hat that covers your head and face from the sun’s UV rays.
  • Map/compass/GPS device: It never hurts to have a map of the area in case your mobile phone coverage drops due to the lack of cell towers nearby. A compass can also come in handy if you find yourself lost without GPS capabilities.
  • Insect repellent: If you plan on camping overnight or spending time near bodies of water, bring insect repellent with you! Insect bites can be painful and annoying – not precisely what you want during a peaceful nature hike!
  • Pocket Knife/multi-tool: A small pocket knife or multi-tool comes in handy for any outdoor activity – from opening packaging for food items to cutting rope for making campfires. Be sure to keep any sharp tools safely stowed away until needed!

What To Wear

Regarding clothing choices for your hike, always opt for versatile layers that allow airflow but retain body heat when necessary. Here are some suggestions:

  • Base layer: Choose a lightweight, breathable material such as a synthetic sports shirt or tank top for your base layer. For the ladies, sports bras for women provide support and comfort during your hike – but don’t forget to pair it with another loose-fitting shirt!
  • Insulating mid-layer: An insulating mid-layer, such as a fleece jacket, will provide extra warmth without adding too much bulk or weight – perfect for those chilly morning hikes!
  • Outer layer: Lastly, wear an outer shell layer made from waterproof material such as GoreTex® fabric that will repel wind chill and rain droplets during unexpected showers (remember to adjust ventilation according to temperature).

With this essential guide, all left is planning out which trails you want to explore! Preparing with the right gear before heading out on any hiking expedition will help ensure safety and comfort throughout your journey – plus, it can help reduce stress levels knowing that everything has been taken care of ahead of time. Happy trails!
