When I say “wedding season”, your mind probably jumps to the summer. But why should the summer get all of the fun? Besides, there are some perks to autumn weddings that you may not have realised. Here are some of my favourite reasons to ditch the summer wedding vibes and celebrate your nuptials in the autumn.
The weather is mild
Some people might argue this point with me but hear me out. The weather can be awful at any point of the year, especially if you live in the UK. The summers can be wet and stormy one day, and a heatwave can follow the next day that melts everything from your makeup to your soul. Not great for a wedding. However, if you hold off until September or October, you will find the weather a bit milder. It might be a bit overcast but at least you won’t sweat through your dress. Your guests will be more comfortable too. The weather is also a bit more consistent so you can plan for rain or a bit of wind. Spring time might seem like a good option for mild weather but has anyone else noticed how stormy the spring can be now? Autumn weather has its perks.
Photos can be cute and cosy
I’m not saying that summer wedding photos are awful; far from it. All that natural light and getting outside for photos when the gardens are in bloom, it can create some breath-taking photos. During the autumn, the gardens change to a rich range of browns and reds while the late blooming flowers are at their peak. And while this is great for your wedding album, it helps to provide your guests with a more comfortable setting to take their own photos of each other. It can be dark and moody as well as leaning heavily on the “‘Til death do us part” line of the wedding vows. But it is also sweater weather. There is no hard or fast rule that says your wedding must be completely formal. Of course, if you want to have a formal event, there are plenty of ways to ensure your wedding party looks the part. Your honeymoon might be cheaper
I’m just gonna put that out there. Weddings are expensive and if you decide to jet off for your honeymoon straight after the disco lights have faded on your reception, you will have another huge expense on your hands. Holidays during the summer months are expensive, it’s that simple. If you decide on an autumn wedding and want to head away straight away, a lot of places will be considered “off peak”. What does this mean for you? Big savings! There is a small downside to this because some places might not be the best to visit during their off season. Parts of East Asia are known for their typhoon season during the autumn. And hurricane season runs from July to November in Barbados. No matter what time of the year you head off on your honeymoon, make sure you check the area for any extreme weather before you hit that book button.
