When I got married, I was determined to have a wedding that represented my husband and myself. As tempting as it was to go full Bridezilla and have everything to represent me, that would not be a nice way to start married life. But, how would I include my husbands love of comic books into our wedding?

What did we want?
When it came to deciding what we would have for our wedding, my husband-to-be left everything up to me. It wasn’t because he was lazy, he just trusted my choices and knew I would make the right decisions for us. Of course, I ran all of the ideas past him before I finalised things to make sure that he was happy. When I told him that we could have a superhero theme, he was over the moon. The idea was to have a vintage superhero themed wedding. This way we could combine my love of vintage with his love of superheroes. What was the budget?
Our wedding was completed on a shoestring budget because we refused to start our married life in a pile of debt over a wedding. The fact that it was a vintage theme helped as we could easily source some of the items we needed in second-hand shops. The whole vintage thing was not very popular (it was gaining a bit of attention at the time) and we were able to find a lot of the stuff we needed for a bargain. I believe my mum still has some of the table settings in her house and she uses them as decorations. We quickly discovered that putting the word “wedding” in front of things made the price jump up! Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to get professional wedding photos taken and we had to use the pictures our friends had taken throughout the day on their mobile phones (some of the pictures were amazing!).
The end result
At the end of the day, we were both really happy with how it all turned out. We had a lot of vintage stuff as props but there were some fun pieces of superhero stuff to give us a superhero themed wedding of our dreams. For example, our cake topper was a vintage Superman and Lois Lane topper. The cake was made to look like the Fortress of Solitude with giant sugar crystals and cotton candy clouds. My husband had Superman cufflinks and I had Superman earrings. It was the little touches that brought it all together and made the day special for both of us. The Groom and the Groomsmen had superhero socks on with matching accessories. For example, my husband-to-be had Superman socks with a plain blue tie, another one had Green Lantern socks and a plain green tie. Oh, and our wedding rings had the Superman symbol engraved on them.
If you want to have a superhero wedding, go for it. It will probably look amazing. However, if you want to mix it up with another theme, it will work even better and reflect both sides of the wedding party.
