Becoming a blogger is one of the most lucrative career paths that you can choose. The earning potential is unlimited. But how do you go from making a few extra pennies every month to raking in 7 figures? This is how you can go from nothing to earning 7 figures as a blogger.

You might have spotted the disclaimer at the beginning of all of my posts that clearly states that I earn money from ads (and other things) on this site. I have to include this disclaimer from a legal standpoint because I do make money from adverts. The amount of money that you can make from ads can vary widely, however, it does come down to the page views that you get on a daily basis. For example, if you are getting a couple of hundred hits a day, Google Ads will pay you a few pennies for the ads that they place on your site. There are other ad companies such as MediaVine, and the rates and amounts you will receive will depend on your traffic. If this seems a bit too unpredictable for your liking, you can place your own ad banners for companies. An example of this would be a fashion brand that pays you directly to place a banner on your sidebar with a link to their site. You decide the amount and the length of time that the banner stays on your site. Again, depending on your traffic and your click-through rates, you could charge a pretty penny for this service. Banner ads direct from brands are not as popular as they once were but they still happen. In a nutshell, the more traffic you have going to your site, the more money you stand to earn from ad revenue.
Sponsored posts
This is another thing which is covered in my disclaimer, and I have always been honest in my reviews about the products that I feature on the site. Sponsored posts have been one of my main income sources over the years. Brands tend to prefer sponsored posts over ad banners now, mainly because a blog post has a longer life span and the backlinks benefit them more. Plus, having a place that has provided information about their products or services helps to spread the word. Sponsored posts, and the amount you can earn can come down to your website stats, such as your DA and spam score. If you don’t know what these are, check out Moz for some information and discover what your blog stats are. Companies want to work with blogs that have been around for a while, have good stats, and well written content. One thing you need to remember is to charge what your stats reflect. A quick look at what SEO companies are charging for their current blogger outreach should give you an idea of what to charge for a sponsored post. Depending on the number of sponsored posts you can get a month, you can easily make a few thousand every month just with this. This might not be the 7 figures as a blogger than you are hoping for, but it is a great place to start. Also, as part of the review/sponsored post, you could be sent products to test that can be worth a small fortune. Over the years, I have reviewed everything from diamond bracelets to skincare products to toys for my kids. All of those products I got to keep and still have to this day.
Other products and services
If there is one thing that you need to know about blogging and making 7 figures as a blogger, is that this is a great place to market other things. One of my favourite things to promote is my book. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a product that certain people may be interested in. Of course, the products and services that you choose to promote will be different for you, however, a lot of bloggers naturally find themselves writing books on various subjects. It is also natural for bloggers to branch out into freelance writing. I know plenty of bloggers who are making 6 figures from their freelance writing and have been featured in national and international publications. Over the years, their rates have gone up as their portfolio grew. Some have made money from TV spots, sharing their knowledge on what it is like to make money as a blogger and helping others to reach their goals.
Social Media
This can be a huge plus to anyone who wants to make 7 figures as a blogger. A lot of the news sites that you see on Facebook were once small sites. Just think of UniLad, a site that was once focused on “lads culture”. It is now part of LadBible, a company that is now on the London Stock Exchange and the owner is worth around £200 million. A lot of the success comes from social media. It goes without saying that social media has launched many businesses and famous faces, so it is worth looking at how it can help you make those 7 figures. There is the added benefit of being able to make money directly from social media. Tiktok has a programme that allows creators to earn money from their videos. The goal of social media is to have a post go viral so that you can benefit from the website traffic that it will generate. For bloggers, the best place to go viral AND drive traffic to your website is Pinterest. I’ve had a couple of viral pins over the years that boosted my traffic massively, so don’t discount the value of social media promotion.
SEO
When I explained the concept of sponsored posts, I mentioned the stats that your blog will have. These stats can depend on SEO. I know some people will disagree and say that these stats and SEO are two different things, but I have found that they are linked, mainly because good SEO will reflect your website stats. Good SEO will ensure that your blog is picked up by search engines and will drive traffic to your site. This means that you need to have a basic understanding of what SEO is and how it will work for your site. There are plenty of tools and resources out there but if you find yourself getting confused by the details, take an SEO course from a trusted source. As I said earlier, Moz is a great place with plenty of information. However, many bloggers have simple guides that can help you with the basics.
Affiliate marketing
This is one of the forgotten sources of income because it is so passive. To give you an example, I use Amazon as part of my affiliate marketing, and in the beginning, I used it a lot. The vast majority of my posts were reviews so it made sense for me to link these products to my Amazon affiliate account. I haven’t linked a product in a good few years and I still get clicks and sales from these links. At one point, I sat back and asked myself why the Amazon affiliate account was still making money? I hadn’t linked anything in years but the links I had placed were still active and making me money. I do want to give you a word of warning when it comes to affiliate marketing, mainly because I have seen some questionable Tiktok videos about how to “make money fast”. Be very careful about some of the advice out there, especially when it comes to how some of these people are explaining the fast cash methods. Affiliate marketing is heavily monitored, and if you are found to be in breach of the terms, you could lose the money that you make and could be in a heap of legal trouble. Affiliate marketing is a great way to make a passive income that will add to your 7 figures as a blogger goal, just ensure that you are following the terms that have been set out.
When it comes to reaching that 7 figure amount, the key is to add all of these elements together. One or two of these elements can help you make a steady income that will help pay the bills every month. However, if you are looking at taking your earning potential to the next level, understanding and using all of the things I have listed here are a sure-fire way to get you to your financial goal.
