How To Have Trustworthy Employees

When you think about it, trust is the foundation of all good businesses – without a leader being able to trust their team to act in the right way and do the right things, how can they ever really build a business? When you have trustworthy employees, you can create an environment of collaboration and open communication, and you’ll all be working towards shared goals. So it’s clearly important to have trustworthy employees, and here are some ways you can achieve it.

Have Clear Expectations

One of the best ways you can have a trustworthy team is to have clear expectations about what you need them to do and how they should behave and tell them about those expectations clearly and openly from the start. You can do this during the interview, the onboarding process, and by having regular updates to policies and plenty of training to really push the point home.

There are many different things you can include in your policies, and drug testing could be something that works for you. If so, make sure you let people know, and include as many details as possible, including the answer to can fake pee be detected. The more your employees know, the easier it will be for them to follow the rules.

Lead By Example

In any business, trust has to begin at the top, and therefore as a leader, it’s vital to show your team that they can trust you, if you want to trust them. That’s why you need to demonstrate the same behaviour you want to see, so your team can model themselves on what you do.

When your employees see you acting in a certain way and – vitally – sticking to your own rules, they’ll tend to do the same thing, especially if you treat them well and fairly. They’re not going to want to disappoint you or be the only ones who do the wrong thing, and at this point, you know you can trust them.

Reward Ethical Behaviour

When you are able to spot ethical behaviour in your team, it’s a good idea to reward it in some way so that everyone can see doing the right thing and being trustworthy counts for something. Of course, you would hope that everyone behaved well because they wanted to and it was in their nature, but sometimes this extra little push can be just what it takes to help them do the right thing.

The rewards you give can be anything from extra holiday to a raise to vouchers for a meal, and so on. It’s going to depend on your budget and what the employee did to deserve the reward in the first place, but as long as you’re consistent and give rewards fairly, you can choose exactly what works for you.

Have Regular Surveys

It’s also great to carry out regular surveys with your team (anonymously, if you prefer) to give you some valuable insights into your business and the people in it. These surveys can really help to reveal the areas that need to be improved, and you can then do what needs to be done.

By giving your employees the chance to say what they think and talk about the change they think is necessary, you’re showing you trust them, and ideally, that will create more trust in the future.
