Comic books
If there is one thing that I love about the current market for geeky stuff, it has made getting comic books a lot easier. Sure, you can pick up the odd copy of Spiderman or Superman in your local newsagents from time to time, but newsagents are starting to disappear too. Shops for geeks are making sure that they have plenty of options, including full length graphic novels and novels. Some of the best books I’ve found have been in these shops. Sure, book shops have books, but your local comic book shop has certain books in limited edition covers that need to be displayed. Plus, it is a great way to find authors that you might not find in other retailers.
Pop! Figures
I once heard Pop! Figures being described as the “New Beanie Baby” and I’ve never agreed with something more in my life. However, unlike Beanie Babies where the goal was to collect as many as you can, Pop! Figures have their own niches. There are so many different figures, it would be pretty hard to collect them all, but not impossible. Although they have plenty of famous faces, there are loads of obscure characters too. Plus, they have started to make super-sized figures too. The only question is, do you keep them in the box or do you take them out?
Pokémon Cards
There are many different card games out there but I don’t know any that are as popular as pokémon cards. Ever since it hit screens in the UK 20-odd years ago, the cards have been a fixture in many people’s lives. Even people who aren’t into pokémon in a big way will happily collect the odd packet or two. And, if you have been collecting for a long time, some of the older cards are rare and highly collectable. Some of them have sold at auction for thousands of pounds. So if you have some hidden in your home, don’t pop them in the bin, they might be worth something.
D&D
Ever since Stranger Things hit our screens, there has been renewed interest in Dungeons and Dragons. And, if you needed any further inspiration to take up this highly immersive story, then you should check out the celebs who enjoy the game. Don’t get me wrong, it appears to be highly complicated from the outside, but once you get into it, it becomes a fun world to explore. Half the battle is making your first character, but there are plenty of places that host D&D nights, so finding people to play with should be easy enough. Thankfully, it is a very welcoming community who will happily help you find your feet.
Warhammer
If you needed more proof that being a huge geek is a thing, I just wanted you to know that Henry Cavill, AKA Superman, is a massive Warhammer fan. In fact, you might have seen his Instagram video at Warhammer central. But we aren’t here to talk about The Man of Steel (we already did that in the comic book section above). For me, Warhammer is not just a game. There is a lot of work that goes into the tiny figures. And let’s not forget about the backstories that go with the game. There are entire libraries dedicated to the history of the Warhammer universes.
