4 Ways To Remember A Cherished Loved One

It’s a sad fact of life that we don’t live forever. Not only do we have to face up our own mortality, despite our best efforts to stay youthful, but we also have to face the fact that the people around us get older too. There will come a time when they will no longer be with us, and that is almost too heartbreaking to bear.

But when somebody does die, be that through old age or any other reason, we can still do what we can to remember them. We can’t bring them back to life but we can keep memories alive. There are a number of ways we can do this, and these include the following.

Create a photo gallery

You could dedicate a wall in your home to the memory of a lost loved one. Using photos that celebrate their life and the time you had with them, you could frame them and display them on the wall. This online store sells the perfect A2 frame for a cherished photo alongside other wall accessories you might find useful. Of course, as many of your photos may be online, you could also use an online collage creator. You could also order prints of these photos if you wanted to have them on show in your home.

Keep a memory box

A memory box is an ideal way to remember the cherished loved one that you have lost. All you need is a box that is big enough for the belongings you want to keep. Items could include photographs, items of clothing, letters they had sent to you, and postcards of holidays you spent together. Add any other items that bring back memories you want to keep and ask your family for their ideas too. After all, like you, they may want to remember the person who has died.

Celebrate their life on their birthday

When the person’s birthday rolls around, feelings of grief can quickly return. We can remember once again that they are no longer with us, and we can struggle to get through the day without them. However, their birthday could be a celebratory day, as it was when they were alive. So, while you will feel sad, you should still do those things that will bring back happy memories of the person.

Get family and friends together to talk and share happy memories of your cherished loved one. Play the songs they liked, eat the foods they enjoyed, and perhaps watch home videos if you have any. Tears will probably flow, and that isn’t a bad thing. But there could be laughter and smiles too, and that will make the day easier.

Plant a tree in memory of them

This is something people do when scattering their loved one’s ashes. They have the notion that out of death comes life, so they include the ashes with the tree seeds. It’s a nice idea although you can still plant a tree without using ashes. Whatever the case, you could plant it in the person’s favourite spot in your garden. Or with permission, you could plant it at another location that they were fond of. Either way, the tree can be a physical reminder of your loved one, and a place to sit with your precious thoughts.

Death is never easy but we will always have memories of the people we lose. Consider our suggestions and keep those memories alive, for yourself and the other people who were close to your cherished loved one.
