If you have a bricks and mortar shop, there is a good chance that you rely on people coming inside to buy stuff. But how can you attract more people inside? Lighting is everything

Some of the most successful retail stores have amazing lighting. The store is bright, but not blinding. The use of lights is one of the best ways to highlight your products, both in the store and in the window.  If you are stuck or can’t think of ideas on how to use lights to highlight your store, search up some retail store design ideas to help get your creative flow moving. One of my favourite things to use is twinkle lights as the flicker can draw attention to what I am trying to highlight. Don’t go overboard with them though, as too much can be worse than nothing at all.

Stock Rotation

If you have a lot of products, you should have them all on display inside the store. However, the window display does not have to have every item in your store present. When it comes to the window, it is a good idea to pop a selection of products in there. As time goes on, take some items out and change them with something else. You can change a couple of items or completely change the window. The important thing to remember is that you have the opportunity to put a few products forward to be highlighted, don’t crowd the space, and swap the products out regularly.

Props are good

Making your window display a work of art means more than just arranging your products. If you have watched the movie Mannequin then you will have an idea of what I am talking about. Using props can add a new dimension to your displays and can help you stand out in a sea of retail windows. if you are not sure about what you should use, just think of the theme that you are aiming for. For example, if it is the middle of summer, add bucket and spades to invoke seaside vibes. Or at Christmas, add a tree. The possibilities are endless.

Have fun with it

Some of my favourite window displays are the ones that I have thrown my arms up in the air and declared “f**k it”! I’ve made weird Halloween displays and Christmas displays that are a bit OTT. But when I let myself loose and have fun with the displays, they catch peoples attention. I’ve had managers rant, supervisors complain, but when the customers are saying “I saw your window display and HAD to come in”, and the end of day totals are good, it is worth it. There might be times when you miss the mark but don’t let that put you off. Have a bit of fun with what you are doing and enjoy creating the displays.

And there you have it, a quick guide to creating a window display. When you put all of these elements together, they help to create a window that will make people stop, do a double take, and remember your store. The more you catch their attention, the more likely they will come in. And this is how dressing a window can increase your sales. Happy window dressing!
