I am not an expert on artificial intelligence but I do know that machines could become a big part of how we live our lives. Yes, I know, we have machines and computers doing loads of stuff now. But the current crisis is forcing us to have a look at how we do stuff. Let’s dive in a see how things might have to change and how intelligent technology is going to help shape the future.
Working from home
For me, working from home is the norm. I haven’t had an office job in years. The last time I did have a “proper job” it was around five years ago and I had to leave because my kids had the chickenpox and the only person who could look after them was me. Trust me when I say it was a disaster, human resources were useless, and I swore I would never put myself through that again. Since then, I’ve built a great business where I can work from home and look after my kids. Working from home might become the new normal for a lot of people as a lot of businesses discover that they don’t really need offices. All their staff need is a good internet connection and to put the work in. Not only will this cut overhead costs for the company but it could reduce carbon emissions because people won’t need to travel for work.
Automatic deliveries
You might have already heard about drone delivery systems popping up but this could grow massively. Not only is it a lot cheaper to whizz a drone about to deliver take-out food, it is also better for the environment. Drone technology is getting more and more advanced, in the future they might be completely autonomous and won’t need a pilot at all. Rumour has it, there are plans to make drones that will only need a destination popped in, will fly there automatically, and once the delivery is made they can fly home. How awesome will that be?! There is a lot of whispers and noise about the future of drones, especially now that we need contactless delivery for vulnerable groups.
Growing your company
If there is anything that has become clear recently, it is that we need to become more self-sufficient. Interruptions with international deliveries are causing headaches for a lot of smaller businesses that need parts from overseas. Smaller factories can be fitted with automatic IVS machinery to help create components in the UK for local businesses. These micro-factories can be managed remotely by staff for any issues while the machines create and inspect the products as they are created. This doesn’t just apply to bits of plastic, this can be used for food too. Instead of standing on a factory floor, staff can monitor everything from the comfort of their home. Admittedly, there is no point in having someone watching from the other side of the world, but for someone who lives five minutes away, this could be their dream job.
Fully embracing technology
That might be a strange statement to make but we haven’t exactly been embracing the vast range of technology that we have. I’m sure we have all had a point in our day when we have thrown our hands in the air and complained about the lack of sci-fi technology. Ok, maybe it is just me. But if you have watched ANY sci-fi movie or tv series, you will know what I’m talking about. There is a load of tech out there that can (and will) make our lives better but we are content with the status quo. Now, despite all of the doom and gloom, we have the chance to fully embrace all of the wonderful gadgets and shake off the old ways of doing things. By fully embracing technology, employers can have an easy time too, not just employees. When you use advanced and artificial technology, you can get precise results. And fewer mistakes mean fewer insurance claims and a better reputation in and outside of your business.
