In today’s world of business, it means investing in eco-friendly solutions that have an environmental impact that can save you money. If you have no idea where to start with those changes, I have found three great places to start that can help you.

Upcycling
If there is one thing that I am passionate about, it is upcycling when you can. There is a lot of pressure on business owners to have the newest items and to constantly upgrade everything. Not only is this exhausting, but it is also completely unnecessary. Also, not only are you adding waste to a landfill every time you change the items in your workplace, but you are also taking money away from your business. When you can, try and fix the furniture that you have. You can even get some great quality second-hand furniture for your office from local recycling schemes. Check with your local council or government to see if they have a recycling centre for furniture. You might be surprised by the schemes that are available for local businesses.
Upgrading equipment
As much as we all love a good upcycling project, sometimes it isn’t a good idea to use older equipment. As the years march on, technology gets more impressive and more energy efficient. So, while keeping the same printer for years might seem ok, after a while you might need to change things. Multipx is a prime example of how you can upgrade your equipment but still save money in the long term. But remember, don’t just ditch the old equipment, there are plenty of schemes that will take those older items and refurbish them for schools and youth groups to use. Of course, you could always store that older equipment for future generations to marvel over. This idea doesn’t just apply to the everyday equipment that you use, you can add solar panels to generate electricity or switch to a boiler that uses renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
Building needs
When you start out, you might overestimate or underestimate the size of the building. If you have a building that is too small, you can always change to a bigger building. However, if your building is too big, you might end up paying too much to run it. This comes in the form of energy bills (for heat and light) and rent (for the unused space). There could come a time that you need that extra space but if it isn’t within the next six months, is it worth paying out that extra money? It always helps to assess your costs and refer back to your business plan. Always keep an eye on how your business is performing to help understand the space that you need.
