If anything good has come from 2020, it’s that people are reading more. I have no facts and figures to back that up, I shall assume this is true because everyone was locked up for most of the year. So if you need a new book to get stuck into, lets dive into the first book of the Lore Trilogy.

The Book

Thoughts on the Book
After the year we have had, it is good to jump into a fantasy story that is somewhat familiar. Let’s be honest with ourselves, when we think of pirates we think of Jack Sparrow (don’t lie, you know I’m right). But this is not Pirates of the Caribbean, this is something very different, and I don’t mean Johnny Depp is missing from the line up. And while we may have an idea of what a pirates life entails, Chad Douglas does not shy away from describing the sights and smells that he wants us to experience throughout the story. This is a long book that is nearly 500 pages long but unlike many longer books, the font is bigger and easier to read.
Thoughts on the Author
Chad T. Douglas wrote his first series of books, the Lore trilogy while studying at the University of Florida. The books received honors in the 78th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, the 2011 New York Book Festival Book Contest, and the 2011-2012 Los Angeles Book Festival Contest. His next book, a science fiction novel, Earthshine, earned him an invitation to the 2014 Paris Book Fair at Salon du Livre. In 2017, Douglas published his fifth and most recent novel, Big Blue 10,022. He currently works as a content marketing specialist for a global consulting firm and is busy developing a new sci-fi/fantasy trilogy as well as a handful of illustrated children’s books.
Overall
This book is everything that you want in smart adventure fiction, a detailed and fully-realised world based on history and inhabited by complex characters with their own motivations. A great gift for anyone interested in fantasy or historical fiction. If you are the sort of reader who wants to dip their toe into fantasy fiction but finds the typical fantasy novel overly complicated, this is a great introduction to the genre.
