After the Christmas decorations come down, the house can feel a bit weird. It also makes it the perfect time to dig in and give the house a good clean. But, can you do it without filling your home with harmful chemicals? Here are some ways to clean your home with natural products.

I would just like to start out by saying, I have nothing against using chemicals. We use chemicals everyday. However, there can be a point when we feel as if there is a bit of a chemical overload and we need to scale it back. And, this is not a complete list, there are many different household products you can use to create natural cleaning products.

Lemon juice

Lemons and their juice can be used in many different ways to clean your home. For a start, it is an acid, so it acts as a bleach. This makes it antibacterial and antiseptic, plus it has a great scent which can lift your mood. One of the ways you can use it is to remove rust marks from fabric. If you want to use it as a cleaner, you should mix it with some vinegar and water (one part lemon juice, one part vinegar, and two parts water). You can use this to wash floors and hard surfaces to leave them clean and fresh. Just remember to rinse with water to remove any residue. You can also pour a cup of lemon juice into your washing machine with your regular detergent to help brighten your clothes and clean the washing machine. One of the best rooms to clean with lemon is the bathroom as you can use it on the grout of your tiles to remove gunk, destroy limescale on the taps, and even clean the toilet bowl.

Salt

If there is one thing I love, it is a bit of spiritual practice to my cleaning routine. Before you click away because we have gone a wee bit “woo-woo”, stay with me for a moment. Salt is known in the spiritual circles as a great remover of negativity. It is used by many cultures to stop evil entering a building. But, if that isn’t your thing, you can still clean it with salt. Adding salt into cold water and soak fresh blood stains from fabric. Using half a lemon on the toilet bowl and pouring some salt on top will give the bowl a good clean. If you want to clean your home with natural products but don’t know where to start, salt is one of the first basic items to add to your cleaning supplies. There is a good chance that you have salt in your cupboard that you aren’t using, so put it to good use as a scrub.

Clear Vinegar

Clear vinegar, also known as white vinegar, is the perfect solution to grim and dirt. As a disinfectant, it is kind of useless. the best way to use it is with natural cleaners (such as the lemon mixture). there are two different types of white vinegar, distilled and wine. The wine variety is much better for cooking, while the distilled is a great cleaning fluid. It shouldn’t be confused with distilled brown vinegar which is the type you put on your chips. One way you can use it is to make a solution of 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water and soak clothing with perspiration stains.

Essential oils

Essential oils have gotten a bit of a bad rep of the last few years thanks to a few people believing that the right blend of oils can cure cancer. Oils might not cure disease, but there are a few that are great as part of therapies and some cleaning properties. Tea Tree oil is a natural antiseptic, lemon oil is a great round oil for its smell and cleaning properties. But, even if you don’t believe in the cleaning qualities that they possess, they smell great. Adding a few drops of essential oils to your homemade cleaner can help to create a beautiful smelling cleaning solution.

These are some of the top things you can use to clean your house but if you don’t want to make your own cleaning solutions, there are plenty of new cleaners that are much more eco-friendly. All you need to do is Google for natural cleaners or check out the cleaning section of your local supermarket. Whatever option you choose, you will enjoy being able to clean your home with natural products
