5 Ways To Make Moving House A Breeze

Wish me luck on my next house move, hopefully, it will be one of the last! And let me know if you have any other tips for making moving house a breeze

If you have been following this blog for a while, you will know how much drama I have had to deal with due to landlords and housing. Thankfully, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and for once it doesn’t look like an oncoming train. In the next few weeks, I will be moving house (again) but at least this will be a move to a decent house.

Even though I am used to moving, there are still some obstacles that I am wary of. If you are wanting to move house soon, here are some ideas to help you take the stress out and make moving house a breeze.

Give yourself time

One of the most stressful things about moving can be the time frame that it takes. You might arrive on moving day, believing that you are organised, only to discover that you haven’t packed some things or haven’t booked a big enough van. This is a tough one because moving day tends to be really tight, especially if you are part of a house buyers chain. Everyone needs to be packed up and moved at approximately the same time. All it takes is for one household to be unorganised to throw a spanner in the works. If in doubt, always give yourself extra time. Personally, I like to get the keys to my new property a week before I leave my old one. This way, I have plenty of time to move my stuff, clean out both properties, and double-check that I have all of my stuff.

Hire a company

This is something that I always tell people for a range of reasons.  First of all, using a professional such as Big Deahl’s Movers can take a lot of hassle out of transporting things. One of the things that people tend to forget is that removal companies have the manpower and the equipment to remove your stuff from your property as quickly as possible and make moving house a breeze. If you ask your friends to do it, there is a good chance that they will stand around and chat, or someone will end up throwing their back out when they lift your sofa. Of course, when it comes to my own house move, I will be using a company to lift all of those heavy items. I’m nearly forty and have no desire to throw my back out.

Consider the cost

The cost of moving house is never cheap. If you want a decent removal company, it will cost you. If you decide to hire a van and do it yourself, that will cost you but in a different way. And let’s not take about the fees and charges that you can be hit with from estate agents and legal fees. There are all types of costs to consider. Good companies such as Rancho cucamonga long distance movers will give you their costs upfront. Always watch out for those hidden charges. On the flip side, there are people who try and cut corners in other ways and it ends up costing them more in the long run. Using a cheap moving company or trying to do it yourself can cause more problems if items are broken or damaged during the move, especially if that damage is to high-value items or appliances.

Get your friends involved

The house I am moving into in the next few weeks is owned by a friend of mine. Before my family can move in, he has to clear out all of his stuff. This has been a big problem for him because I have insisted on helping and I’m currently poking through all of his stuff. It’s ok, I’ve known him for 25 years, I know all his secrets. Why am I bringing this up? Because he has struggled with the packing. Since his girlfriend asked me to help, we have packed up most of his stuff and organised his life for him. Not only has this made the packing of his life a lot easier, but he has also actually enjoyed it. Once the house is ready, he will be helping us to move some of our stuff out of storage. Friends can really help as long as you don’t mind them poking through your private stuff.

Eat well and hydrate

In the stress and joy of moving, a lot of people forget that they have to eat and drink. You might not be able to cook yourself a three-course meal, but you can still ensure that you have food and drink available. Pack a picnic, make sure that you have a large bottle of water, and be prepared to order take-away that you can eat out of a container. Although eating might not be the most important thing to you on moving day, please, and I’m begging you, make sure that you stay hydrated. That last thing you need is a headache or feeling sick because you are dehydrated. Personally, I like a big bottle of mineral water to drink, finger foods that I can nibble on such as grapes and crackers, and I love getting burgers after a move.

Wish me luck on my next house move, hopefully, it will be one of the last! And let me know if you have any other tips for making moving house a breeze.
