The Secrets To Feeling Confident In Your Own Skin

The Secrets To Feeling Confident In Your Own Skin

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you could see yourself through kinder eyes? Doesn’t that sound like a lovely thing to be able to do? Rather than looking at your reflection and seeing someone (or even something) you don’t like, perhaps it would be great to see someone you do like – someone you could be kinder to than you usually are.

Often, that comes down to confidence, and although you might initially think differently, confidence isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you build up over time (some people build it up more quickly than others, that’s all). Even if it’s hard at first, with practice and perseverance, anyone can feel confident in their own skin, and that includes you, so keep reading to find out how to do it so you can finally start treating yourself a bit (or a lot) better.

Love Who You Are Now

The fact is that you might look in the mirror and dislike the scars, freckles, wrinkles, and so on that look back at you – you might call these things blemishes. But what if you looked at them a different way? What if you look at them not as something that’s wrong with you or that should be disliked, but as something fantastic and positive?

How? It’s a matter of switching perspectives and realizing that every one of those ‘flaws’ is a story – it’s something you’ve been through, it’s another year lived, or it’s even the story of your parents or grandparents when it comes to genetics. The point is that it’s you, and if you can learn to love who you are now, that’s going to massively help you be kinder to yourself. True, you might still want to make changes, but if you love who you are now, those changes won’t be so stressful or urgent and you can think things through properly.

Think Positively

Did you know that your thoughts hold a lot more power than you might have realized? It might sound strange, but the fact is that if you think negative things about yourself, or talk about yourself in a negative way to others, your confidence is going to slowly but surely disappear, and if you’ve got a habit of negative self-talk, eventually your habit will overtake your confidence altogether, and all you’ll have is negative thoughts about how you look, how you talk, how you dress, how you behave, and so on.

It’s important therefore that you start by becoming aware of what’s known as your ‘inner dialogue’ which is probably a lot of statements about how bad you are and how bad you look. It’s time to replace those negative thoughts and comments as soon as you can and have positive ones instead – it’s amazing how just this change can make all the difference and soon you’ll start believing yourself, and that’s when you can really be happy and healthy – and finally feel confident in your own skin.

Get Help When You Need It

There’s absolutely no shame when it comes to asking for help to feel more confident in your own skin – in fact, it’s a positive and brave step a lot of the time as it’s going to help you improve yourself in all kinds of ways. For some, visiting the best cosmetic clinic can be what’s needed for an added boost of confidence, and some non-surgical procedures to make you look and feel great might just do the trick, so if that sounds like a good idea, it’s well worth looking into.

Other experts you could speak to include therapists, doctors, dentists, professional stylists, and so on. Or you might just want to speak to your friends and family and get some advice – although they’ll always be positive about how you look because they love you, why not take that as face value? Even that little change can make your life a more positive one and help you feel confident about yourself a lot more.

Dress The Part

There’s an old saying that says “clothes maketh the man”, and although that’s not quite right – just dressing as someone or something won’t make it come true – there is a little bit of help you can get from this idea if you bear it in mind. The fact is that clothes might not make you who you are, but they can have a big impact on how you feel about yourself, and that’s just as important.

In other words, wearing something that matches your style and personality and makes you feel not just comfortable but good because you know it suits you can totally boost your mood and raise your confidence levels, so why not try it and make some changes to your wardrobe if you need to? It doesn’t have to be about wearing the latest fashion trends (although you can if you want – that’s your choice and if that’s what makes you feel good, go for it!), but instead it’s about working out what clothes work best for you and what makes you feel like you. Once you do that, you’ll feel a lot more comfortable in your own skin because you know you look great – confidence will be all over you.

Fuel Your Body Right

Looking good might seem to come naturally to some people, but remember, they’re more than likely working hard behind the scenes to look that good – some, like famous movie stars, will have teams of wardrobe and makeup professionals to help them, not to mention the lighting and editing processes involved in photoshoots and filming. And some who look amazing when you pass them in the street might have sat through hours of makeup themselves, and at the very least they’ll have a good diet to keep them looking great.

As you can see, you’ll need to put in a little work if you want to look great, and that means you’ll need to fuel your body right to ensure it happens. Giving your body healthy, nourishing foods and staying active means you’ll be physically (and mentally) healthy, and you’ll also have plenty of positive hormones in your body, and all of that’s going to add up to make you feel a lot more confident in your own skin.
