The book

This is essentially a cookbook that is packed with stories about how Ella used healthy eating to improve her life after being diagnosed with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome.  This is when the body pulls your blood down to your belly area when you stand up and causes lightheaded episodes. This is due to the automatic nervous system not working properly. Rather than suffer and spend 90% of her time in bed, Ella began changing her diet to help manage her symptoms. Over the course of a few years, she went from a sugar monster to healthy eating guru with her own website and cookbook.

Thoughts on the Book

I had picked up a copy after a friend had recommended it to me. That was a few years ago and since then I have been back and forth using it. The book is laid out into different sections such as Grains, Nuts and Seeds, instead of the usual breakfast, lunch and dinner sections. Each section has a variety of different recipes that can be used for different meal times and treats. There is a section at the beginning which explains how to make some of the staples for other recipes.

Thoughts on the Author

Ella is definitely an inspiring person as she has battled a chronic health condition, turned her health around, and created an amazing blog and business for herself. Not many people would be able to push themselves that far if they have good health, never mind if they are bedridden most of the time. She also has the right idea about getting started with healthy eating, by starting small and working your way up to the diet of your dreams.

Overall

This is a great book if you want to start eating more healthy food. I’ve been back and forth with it for a few years now and have enjoyed the stuff I have made so far. I actually started at the beginning of the book and worked my way through. The first dish, Easy Quinoa, has become a favourite in my house. And her smoothies are some of the best I’ve tasted (and I’m fussy when it comes to smoothies and juices). Plus, if you make any of her stuff and post it on Instagram and tag her, she will like the post.
