As a bit of a fitness nut, fuelling is important for me. But how do we balance gains while making some switches to a vegan diet? I have the answer.
This post is a collaboration between myself and Sci-Tec Nutrition, they have sent me out some products to try out in return for my opinion. All opinions are my own. Seriously, if you have been here long enough, you will know that my opinion can’t be bought.
Let me start off by saying, I love a bit of vegan food. I really enjoy the variety and colour that comes from a vegan meal. I would happily swap out a couple of meat-based meals a week for vegan ones. Unfortunately, I married a former butcher who is not so keen on the idea. So, rather than force him to join in my vegan meals, I’ve been searching for some alternatives to try. I do vegan breakfasts and lunches but dinner time is for good quality meat 5 days a week. Why 5? I’m so glad you asked, 5 nights of meat, 1 night of fish, and 1 night of vegan. We may shake that up again and push it to 3-2-2 if I can get away with it.
Now, although my efforts to switch things up at meal times without annoying everyone is admirable, it leaves me with the problem about fuelling. I love my protein shakes but they do use animals so not vegan-friendly. Vegans work out, and if you don’t believe me that vegans are strong people, pop over to Instagram and search #vegangains. So there is bound to be a vegan protein shake for me. While it might be tempting just to ditch the shakes, as an IBS sufferer they work wonders for my tummy. Don’t know why, they just do.
My rants about protein shakes must have been heard far and wide because Sci-Tec contacted me and asked would I like to try their vegan stuff. I am a Sci-Tec user and regularly tag them in stuff on Insta so I did not need my arm twisted to try this. I was expecting a couple of sachets to taste test but instead they sent two…errr….barrels of powder.
First up, we have 100% plant protein powder in chocolate praline flavour from the Green Series. It is a *takes a deep breath* GMO-free, lactose-free, dairy free, gluten free, vegan and plant-based product. All you need to do is mix a scoop with 300ml of water in your shaker and BOOM! You have a creamy protein shake that is made from peas! This is surprisingly creamy when it is made with water but you can mix it with a nut milk for a ridiculous treat.
Next, we have Vita Greens and Fruits in pear lemongrass flavour. This is a *takes another deep breath* GMO-free, lactose-free, dairy free, gluten free vegan product. This has 18 different vegetable and 8 different fruit sources in one serving. I don’t have to tell you all why vitamins and minerals are so important, you lot are a clever bunch. But, just in case you need a reminder, some of the benefits include helping fight and fatigue, help maintain healthy blood clotting and bone formation. And if you sweat a lot, you might suffer from restless legs, I know I do when my mineral levels are low. This is super sweet and amazing with it has some crushed ice added to it. It’s like a healthy slushie!
So…..? Will I make the switch? Abso-freaking-lutey! Not only are these two barrels reasonably priced compared to others, I would like to think I will get karma points for it being vegan. They both taste great and they don’t have that mankey aftertaste (you seasoned protein shake drinkers know the one). My husband wasn’t a fan of either of the powders, but you know what? I don’t care! All the more for me!
