I’m one of those people who seem to get into trouble without trying. This tends to happen because I don’t think things through. Sometimes it can get me into a spot of mischief and looking like a complete idiot. Other times it makes me looking like a complete badass and living legend. After running 10k the other day, I’m not sure what my current status is.
There is no point in exercising or trying to get fit if your diet doesn’t reflect what you are doing. For most people at this time of the year, they will be regretting those drunken announcements that they are quitting smoking, running 5k a day, or simply eating healthy. I feel your pain. But while some people are starting to slip back into old habits already, I tried to kick it up a bit with some cooking to go with my running everyday.
Sometimes we make some stupid excuses for not working out. I’m tired. I don’t have time. What good would it do me really? One one hand, I can see a valid point in all of these reasons. Or excuses, depending on your point of view.
Sunday is normally a day of rest for most people. Most people probably go to lunch with their family, or go to the park. I have no idea. I haven’t had a normal family Sunday in what seems like forever. And today was no different. Except there was a run in there at some point.
Fitness is one of those things that most people struggle with, and between well meaning friends and the boo-hockey you find online, it is sometimes feels like the blind leading the blind. Thankfully these days there is an app for everything and fitness apps are on the up. So we decided to peel ourselves off the sofa and find those abs under the flab using some different apps. Here are some of our favourite free apps that can get you moving in the right direction without needing a personal trainer.
Last night, for some strange reason, I found myself on the MENSA website. Strange, I know, but while I was there I done a mini IQ test. It was an “easy” test according to them and my brain hurt afterwards. I was expecting to get a low score but somehow I managed to get 60%. Not bad seeing as I was expecting 20% or something around that figure. I don’t do crosswords or any regular brain training apart from studying for my degree, but why don’t I try and expand my mind some more?
Time is a big factor in everyone’s life. We never seem to have enough to get everything done that we want. Then it hit me. Instead of reading, why don’t I listen? Today I ditched the music for my run and decided to listen to some lectures I had downloaded instead. I was bopped along in the rain I listened to experts in psychology discuss identity and the effect disability has on a person mentally. It was enlightening. My mind took in the information while my body worked out. I ended up going further today because I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. The end result was 6 miles without realising.
Could this be the next big thing in working out? Working our brains as well as our bodies? There are plenty of free lectures on any amount of subjects to be found online. Audible is an online digital bookshop which will give you your first download for free. Even better, just type “free audio books” into google and it will bring up a mountain of listings. Learn French while you jog? Maths at the gym? The possibilities are endless!
Another day of Janathon is upon us but my story for today starts last night. As I lay in bed last night, feeling like I was on my death bed, for some reason I found myself watching Katie Hopkins “My Fat Story”. Now, I’m not a fan of this woman at all but seeing as it is Janathon, I thought I would have a look. I think she is rude and engages her mouth before her brain, but on the issue of obesity, she has a point and a valid one at that. “Eat less, move more” is her simple concept to tackle an over-weight population of Britain and beyond. I won’t go too much into the show in case you haven’t seen it yet but all I will reveal is that when she tries to talk to “fat” people, she gets shut down every time. At one point, a woman who invited her to take part in a debate, accuses her of a hate-crimes against fat people, all because she pointed out the obvious, these women were overweight and putting their health at risk.
I feel ill today. No, it’s not a hangover but it sure feels like one mixed with some flu feeling. Maybe it is the flu. I’ll be honest, I don’t really care. Right now I’m lying in bed trying to keep my eyes open while resisting the urge to vomit. Yep, I feel awful. Despite this I still got up this morning and went for a run.
Something is wrong. Very wrong. Today was the first day of Janathon and I haven’t complained at all. Not even once. I have grounds to complain but haven’t.
